redemption flight change
I redeemed miles for Business Elite tickets to CDG 331 days out in order to get the lowest tier of required miles (for next July). Delta has now rescheduled the flights I booked (no big surprise there) and automatically placed me on later flights that day each way.
I might prefer to be on the earlier flight each way since it is a code share with Air France that has lay flat seats in business class.
So my question is: if I call Delta, will they switch me to the earlier flight instead of placing me on the later flight since my original was cancelled? Do I have a say in the matter or is it their choice?
FYI, the original redemption tier is now unavailable on either flight, and the code share Air France flight is twice the price of the Delta flight. However both business class sections are wide open.

DL will waive change fees for rebooking onto alternative flights with award availability and may open up award space on DL/NW flights, but they almost definitely won't book you on a partner flight without award availability.

This happened to us - we had four award seats booked 331 days out first class to Hawaii (from BWI). Of course, there were some changes made, and our connection time in ATL was reduced to 40 minutes! When I called, a couple of times actually, the Delta rep was so kind and helpful - got us on a better connection flight and no fee. If you're not happy with the rep you talk to, don't do anything then call back later. First rep was going to make the changes for a fee, a few months out, then I didn't do it, called back and they said don't do anything, wait, don't pay any fee, and sure enough that was good advice.
Good luck!
