Interesting. A few years ago I had to go down to STT for business, but had a previous commitment one night that I had to fly back for in the middle of the trip, and fly back to STT the next day to complete the work. Booked the first out, and final back as one trip. Then booked the "middle" back and out part as a separate trip.

start of trip: MCO > STT middle: STT > MCO > STT return: STT to MCO

Now this was on American, but they didn't give me any grief about it.

They don't always catch the problem ... only when they go looking.

However, in your case I am guessing that middle trip was midweek and thus no Saturday night stay. So you would not have been trying to circumvent the fare rules. If not, they missed it or decided not to pursue the matter.

If I remember correctly, for the middle trip it was either I came back on a Friday, went back out Saturday - or - went out Saturday came back Sunday.

At any rate, probably just that they weren't looking for it. Never really stopped and thought about that trip as breaking the rules.

If you do find that there are Saturday stay rules, book a one way to your destination for the first week. And then book round-trips from your away location to home and back to the away location. Those trips will include the Saturday stay. The last week, you buy another one way ticket.
