Silver Medallion

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I am 3,500 MQMs from Silver Medallion with no planned air trips for the rest of the year but could take a quick trip to put me over. I have never been a Medallion and usually take 2-3 business and 2-3 personal trips per year. I am wondering if Silver Medallion is worth obtaining? If so, any ideas for an inexpensive, easy way to get 3,500 MQMs before the end of the year?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's worth it. While you will be low on the hierarchy for upgrades, and don't officially get to use the medallion security lines (but sometimes you can), it still breaks you out of the general crowd. If there are irops (flight disruptions) you get taken care of before 90% of the other pax, you get the medallion phone line (which saves perhaps 10 minutes of hold time per call), and the 125% miles earning also helps.

Check the mileage run forum for tips on getting those MQM's.

Correct! Just simple way to get onboard the aircraft by zone 2 only for Medallions.

I'm in my first year as a Silver Medallion, and I agree with the others that the status is worthwhile. I've been upgraded on 8 of 15 segments this year, including one trans-Atlantic and four transcontinental flights.

You will also get access to whatever replaces the Medallion Marketplace, where you can redeem miles for things other than flights. (If you want to maintain status, the last thing you want to spend miles on is a flight.)

As stated before, the Mileage Run forum is very helpful. Also you can go to http://www.farecompare.com/search/flyertalk.html. With 2 an 1/2 months left in the year you have the luxury of some flexibility for a MR or two.

Quick question. My next trip should be enough to net me Silver, will the +25% MQMs on flights start afterwards, this year, or next year? I have one or two more trips to make this year, and was wondering if they'd be eligible.

tladle,

Welcome to FT!

If boarding early and having the chance of an upgrade is worth it to you, then it's worth taking a flight to earn the benefit.

Here is an optional way to earn your 3500 MQM by the end of the year. If you do not have AMX Delta skymiles credit cards, if apvd for the Delta Plat Skymiles AMX card, on first purchase (6-8 wks later) you will earn 5000 MQMiles. There is an annual fee $150.

There are no bonus MQMs for status -- only bonus SkyMiles. They will begin on the flight after the one which puts you over the 25,000 MQMs.

However, if that flight is before you are officially upgraded to Silver (usually the following Saturday) you may have to wait until the end of the year before you see the bonus SkyMiles.

eg: You have 24,500 MQMs right now. Tomorrow morning, you fly ATL-DCA and get 500 MQMs. That is enough for Silver, but you will not get the bonus SkyMiles for that flight and will not be officially upgraded until Saturday

Tomorrow afternoon, you fly back to ATL. You will earn the bonus SkyMiles but because you have not yet been officially upgraded they will not be posted to your account until the end of the year.

On Monday, you make the same round trip. Your records now show you are Silver and you will get the bonus SkyMiles immediately.

As for priority boarding, don't forget that this also includes Breezeway, which lets you board whenever you like via a separate line. Absolute lifesaver when you show up mid-boarding and the general line is long.
