Cuba - Trip reports?
 

I am starting to plan a trip to Cuba for next year, and would love some advice from people that have done it before.

I know that several FTers have been to Cuba and I would love to read trip reports. What airline, what hotels, what restaurants, what to see, etc. Any info would be appreciated.

I guess you'll have to ask those who've gone by e-mail. The U.S. citizens may be a bit reluctant to speak too much about having gone to Cuba let alone how they got there and what they did.

From Chicago, you'd probably have to go via Mexico or a Caribbean country, or if you can get to Toronto, fly from there.

From western Canada, weekly all inclusive packages are advertised from as low as just under C$1,000 (USD 630) while air alone (just says Cuba) is CAn 729 (not sure if that includes taxes and fees).

I love Flyertalk, but sometimes the competition has more info. Try http://igougo.com/ and do a search using Cuba, there were 5 journals/trip reports on Cuba, 18 on Havana. I really hate the way IGOUGO is set up, just do not like the procedure for reading journals.

Best airlines are 1) Air Jamaica which has service from both KIN and MBJ
One problem there is as US national Air Jamaica has to ( or is supposed to) make sure you have a valid visa/permission to enter the country.

2) you can fly Cubana from the Bahamas, which is cheapest way to go and may be less hassle in the long run.
I spent 8 days in Cuba, but that was over 10 years ago so any info I might provide would be dated.
Best beaches: Varadero, there is also a area
(whose name slips me) with some interesting inland lakes.
Meals try Pollo Baracoa and the native papaya yoghurt at least once.

Every person I've spoken with has flown Air Canada, they are well aware of US citizens flying to Cuba.

Yes you are right I forgot about Air Canada (a high percentage of the tourists visting cuba are Canadians) when you live in Florida
Air Canada is sort of off the radar screen.

You can also fly Cubana or AeroCaribe from CUN. I believe there is daily service on both airlines. AeroCaribe is affilliated with Mexicana.
