Cuba & Power Outages in December 2024
I went to Santa Maria in 2015 and it was a very nice trip. The beaches were fantastic, the weather very nice, and the resort, entertainment and food - while far from great - was better than I expected. Cuba it seems now has some extremely low prices for all-inclusive vacations. That said, there have been power outages all over the country for several months. Can any of you who have visited the country in recent days or weeks be able to shed some light on the situation there? While all resorts have power generators, power outages for extended periods of time can create problems for everyone.
If any of you have been in Cuba recently, please advise. Thanks. |
10 Years Ago, a U.S. Thaw Fueled Cuban Dreams. Now Hope Is Lost.
A decade since the United States and Cuba restored diplomatic relations — which many believed would transform the island — Cuba is in its worst crisis since Fidel Castro took power. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/27/w...sultPosition=1 Paywall for the article. It gets into how little tourism revenue Cuba gets these days. It's sad to see. Still, I think it's a great time to visit if you're an adventurous type. The Cubans badly need your dollars, euros or whatever currency you have. |

If any of you have been in Cuba recently, please advise. Thanks. We stayed in one of the top tier hotels and experienced no power outages there so it certainly seems like they get some preferential treatment. It was a delightful stay, and more people should experience Cuba! |
