How to get to Cuba from states?
 

Hello everyone, Does anyone know how I can get to Cuba with Mr. Trumps new travel restrictions in place? I still really want to go but of course I'd like to come home as well. I remember people used to go through different countries where you can make a connection and still return.

Yeah. Book a flight from the nearest airport to your home, through Miami or other hub if you need.
The only real "change" announced has been the elimination of the individual "people to people" OFAC category. So use "Support for the Cuban People", and stay in casas particulares, eat at paladars, arrange tours with local Cuban guides and drivers, so as to fulfill a 'full-time' schedule of activities that support entrepreneurs. (There is now a published list of Cuban government entities that you cannot trade directly with, but if indirectly, you are not effected. Example: You cannot trade directly to buy quantities of rum from certain distillers, but you can buy a bottle from a shop or drink that rum in a bar.)
Keep notes of what you did and who you dealt with for 5 years, as required, if you are concerned. No OFAC audits have been announced, though, (There have not been any for individual travelers for many years.), nor has any additional money been allocated for audits or staff to do them. It would be difficult for OFAC to check any private entities in Cuba, you would be spending cash (not track-able credit card transactions), and nobody gives receipts for anything in Cuba.
No need to go through a third country. Your itinerary would be known anyway, and Cuba is stamping all passports nowadays.

Btw, a US citizen cannot be refused entry into the US no matter where s/he is returning from.
If CBP asks at the airport (which they likely won't because most people use the automated machine and they just check the slip and say Welcome Home), just don't say you were on a beach vacation; tourism is not an OFAC reason for travel. CBP isn't charged with investigating what you did in Cuba anyway.
