Booking Cuba travel online

Given that there are now scheduled airline flights between the US and Cuba, why is it still impossible to book these flights via some of the major OTAs (Expedia/Orbitz, specifically)?

You can book directly from the airlines' websites and from other sites like Kayak. It would seem a no-brainer that all sites should have enabled these destinations in their IT systems, no?

This isn't meant to be a political post or a rant or anything. I just don't get it.

It's all a "work in progress". Don't sweat the small stuff. Just get yourself there by whatever means are up and even partially running, and enjoy.

There are still various U.S. laws that forbid trading (which includes reservations) with Cuba. Transport doesn't seem to count but everything else does (or so it seems). I guess the OTAs are staying clear of the whole thing until there is some further/clearer guidance.

There are still significant regulatory issues surrounding USN's travel in Cuba. Some of the rules are conflicting and some are simply unclear.

The OTA's make money only when things are absolutely clear and can be accomplished without human intervention. While they generally sell "air only" they make money off hotels and car rentals as well. Cuba isn't there yet.

What's wrong with booking directly with the airline? It makes schedule changes and cancellations so much easier to fix.
