Top cruise forums?

Any veteran cruise takers know of a flyertalk equivalent for cruise lines for the uninitiated? I will be taking my first cruise later this year and could use some pointers. Thanks.

Hi Dan,

The two major cruise forums are:

CruiseCritic.com
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/

CruiseMates.com
http://www.cruisemates.com/forum/

If you're looking for message board catering to luxury cruises, there are two options:

Luxury Cruise Talk from Brown & Keene Travel
http://www.LuxuryCruiseTalk.com

Gold Standard Forum from Eric Goldring Travel
http://www.goldringtravel.com/forum.aspx

Cruise Critic definitely gets the most traffic so it's an excellent place to begin. Happy cruising!

Andrea

Dyslexic me! For a millisecond I spotted the question Tom Cruise Forums? :p

My experience is that a decent number of people on Cruise Critic are also FTers, so you might find some gurus who know the tricks of the air, land and sea. :)

I have also learned that some people gifted with finding deals and mistakes, have benefited from ridiculously great deals on cruising, too. :)

Top Cruise (not Curse), indeed. :p

In my expoerience Cruise Critic is the way to go. The other major forums are a waste of time.

Unless you're looking to find others on your ship that want to join you in a friendly round of golf while in port.

Eh? Cruise critic members typically have a roll call so they can meet up and join. Are you just saying there aren't too many golfers on there?

But yeah, if you're a first time cruiser, just going through all the info on cruise critic is more than enough.

Cruisecritic tends to be either very good or very bad in terms of info depending on which cruise line or area of the world you are traveling in. I have seen downright wrong info posted there.

Visit a couple of sites. I too like the GoldStandard forum already mentioned. It just started but it is really good. The Blog from Eric Goldring is very interesting.

Cruisecritic deceptive cruise reviews

I was quite active on cruisecritic for a while until I discovered that they censor negative posts in a deceptive way.

I wrote a long account of a horrible experience on NCL. Cruisecritic posted this at a hidden private web address that only I could access. My complaints were similar to complaints I'd read in earlier reviews but had ignored because the overwhelming majority were positive. I suspect that cruisecritic kept my negative review hidden so as not to jeopardize their cruise line advertizing.
Tellingly, NCL stopped collecting end-of-cruise questionnaires, they already know how bad they are.

If cruisecritic would post a disclaimer that they will only publicly post positive reviews or that negative reviews are hidden then I might feel differently.

.

I tried the rollcall on my Princess cruise. No golf partners were found.

Here's a recent negative review of another line that's accessible by anyone:

Maybe you should ask CC why your negative review of NCL was buried.
