Virgin HAL Cruiser

Next month I will undertake my virgin cruise, which will be a Holland America 17 day AKL-SYD-MEL-SYD. I know how duty free works flying, but how about cruising at the end? Are there DF shops at the Sydney cruise terninal?

Thanks

Just be careful buying jewelry on the ship. We purchased some "duty free" and then had to pay in US customs.

There are duty free shops on the cruise ship. I know for our Caribbean cruise if you bought booze, they held it till the cruise was over then you picked it up on the last day. What types of duty free shops are you looking for?

Also try www.cruisecritic.com They can answer any question

Of course you did. The rule is that you don't pay taxes in the location you buy it, but when importing you are still subject to the duty laws of the country/state you import it into. Depending on the state you live in you may owe sales/use tax on your purchase as well. And this goes for anything, not just jewelery, though the purchase prices on most other things are low enough that one rarely exceeds the exemption level for the US customs duty.
