reservation and passport not exactly the same, problem?
 

the person who made the reservation for cruise didn't get my name exactly right. used my middle name instead of first. both are on passport. will i encounter problems?

You're not the first cruiser who answers to a middle name ( ;) F.Lee Bailey ?).

I would call the cruise line and inform them and have them change the spelling/order of the same. Although you can still make the reservation and a pretty good chance that you will be able to get onboard the ship, what will happen is that you will encounter a longer than normal delay at check in because all the information does not match up and depending on the cruise line, you may be at the check in counter for a while until everything get sorted out.

With online check-in being very popular, you might even be able to make that change online.

Please make the change before the 72 hour time line when the cruise line turns over the passenger manifest to Homeland Security for clearance.

The manifest is run through a computer program, which flags all "inconsistencies". You may get hung up trying to get on the ship explaining the disparity.

If I am not mistaken, you are from a country other than the USA, which will already put you under extra scrutiny. Call the cruise line, your TA, whoever booked the cruise, to make the changes so your name is consistent with your passport.

On your passport, are your first and middle names under "given names?" If so, you should not have a problem.

On my passport, I have:

Given Name(s): AAA BBB
Surnames: CCC

One of my cruises had my name on the manifest as Mr. BBB CCC.

In the following example, both Nicholas and William are under "given names"

Name variations of the sort mentioned in the OP is not flagged in such a way as to systematically cause problems with DHS that would result in non-travel. If anything, it's the travel supplier that would make the biggest issue of it and even they usually don't.

If the OP has a problem on day of travel, that's just uncommonly bad luck.

It is my understanding that you may encounter issues when checking into boarding. Cruise lines require a 100% first and last name match. Since 2001, Cruise Lines have definitely become much stricter about spelling errors and there are people who have been denied boarding for situations similar to this.

Call your travel agent and have it corrected. How close are you to sailing?

I didn't mean to imply there would be DHS problems. However, when DHS transmits the manifest in return to the cruise line, the inconsistency in the name will be flagged. It will then be up to the cruise line check in agents to deal with it. Some agents are forward thinking, some abide ONLY by the rules before getting a supervisor.

To avoid problems AT CHECK-IN, I would get the name changed BEFORE the manifest goes to DHS for security clearance. Should make it easier on the OP all the way around.
