Queen Mary 2

We sat out next to the Golden Gate Bridge yesterday afternoon and watch the Queen Mary 2 sail in. It was fairly impressive I'll have to say. It only cleared the bridge by 25 feet. It was massive and was greeted by probaly 10,000 along the route. It looked like no one was home watching the Super Bowl.

Links to a video of it passing under the Golden Gate and other photos. I'm looking at the ship right now out of my office window. Beautiful.

You'll find several links to photos in this thread:

We were in SF yesterday to enjoy the festivities (QM2, not the Super Bowl). Judging by the throngs of people who came out to see QM2, it's safe to say she gave the Super Bowl a real run for it's money in San Francisco!

We rode the QM2 NYC-Southampton in 2005 and learned that a design parameter was the height of the Verazzanno Bridge; she clears it by 17 feet at mean low water.

Thanks for the links and the info. You gave me a lot of pleasure.

Enjoyed the link, but I thought the QM was a transatlantic ship NY to Lon. Does circumnavigate?

So which cruise ship is the largest ship in the world? "Cruise Ship" not aircraft carrier.

From my understanding, the largest cruise ship is currently the Freedom of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) followed by the Queen Mary 2.

The QM2 is not a traditional cruise ship. An ocean liner is a better term because it is built for ocean travel. That generally means faster than average speed and better stability in rough waters. Waves that will bring out the magic sick bags in the average cruise ship will be much less noticeable on the QM2. The ship is massive and has been doing circumnavigations the last couple years, but the world cruise offering is kinda sparse. There aren't a lot of ports that the QM2 can call at because of its size outside of the Caribbean, NYC and Southampton. With the Queen Victoria coming online this year, the Queen Mary is going to be doing more transatlantic crossings with the occasional Europe and Caribbean cruise.
