Immigration Control

Is there any at the dock(whichever islands you've been to)?

No. In the Caribbean, you will not have to go through any immigration or customes. You will need your ship card and ID to re-ente rthe port area when going back to the ship, but that's all.

Returning to the US (or going to a US port after visiting a foreign port) you will have to clear customs and immigration. However, when we returned from a recent cruise to Tampa, the immigration and customs was extremely cursory. It consisted solely of turning in the customs form.

I was recently on the Mariner of the Seas, departing from Port Canaveral FL, going to Nassau, St Thomas USVI and St Maarten.

When the ship arrived in St Thomas, all passengers had to go through US Customs and Immigration on the ship, regardless of their residency or if they were leaving the ship or not.

Since many ships now make a stopover in places like Ensenada you'll also get checked on Hawaii cruises; last one I had was very simple, quick look at the documents and you are good to go. They mark your name on a list and mark you disembarkation pass. The whole thing is as leaky as a bucket, but I guess it satisfies the immigration people.

Ah thanks a lot guys! That's good to hear. I'm hoping to take an Easy Cruise next year. I wrote to all islands asking if I need a visa or not(I'm a Thai citizen) and they said I didn't if I were on a cruise and stayed less than 24 hours. But I thought I would ask here just to have a peace of mind :) It would be too much of a problem if I need to get a visa for all those islands! So I guess I will only need just one for Barbados where I will embark and disembark then. I've already had a US visa for a while now. I will first fly to NY anyway before continuing to Bardabos.
