What do you hear the cruise lines are offering to keep safe?

Sounds like us. I’ve been wearing masks and exam gloves to the grocery, hardware, and liquor store and I do those trips as quickly as I can. We’ve done curbside or home delivery dinners probably 20+ times but it’s not like eating out. We now know our FedEx and UPS delivery folks as 99% of our shopping is done on line. Mrs K goes into her regular work office once a week but only because on Monday they do a secure VTC that she can’t connect to at home. In something like a potential 230 +/- working days since they basically closed her building she’s been in maybe 30 times. The worse exposure has been both of us had to have multi-step dental procedures which was doubling uncomfortable because of the exposure risk.
These are strange times.

Dental exposure: That was terrifying. In fact, before going in, I called the dentist's office and apologetically asked to interview the hygienist was going to work over me for an hour. I figured that all medical people want to take my temperature and ask me about my personal life, so I politely turned it around. She was really great in allowing me to ask, and put me at ease about how she and her family keep socially distanced from others. Made me feel comfortable enough to come in. Then, I saw her double-masked and face-shielded. Six days later, I was feeling a lot better when no symptoms emerged.
These are strange times.

Gary Bembridge has an interesting video about protocols on an MSC cruise, including a lot of actual on-board footage:
I'm shocked by the lack of physical distancing to be honest. It seems they go with "we can do anything in a mask" strategy.

The videos are unconvincing. I hope they are also unconvincing to the Canadian government and boatloads of potentially COVID-riddled cruisers and crew will be kept out of our ports.

Viking Seas installed a PCR lab on Viking Star https://www.vikingcruises.com/press/...ry-at-sea.html
Not sure how many tests they can process per hour and how many kits + test supplies to process the kits will be stocked onboard. It certainly isn't a single kit per passenger + crew. Lab techs will also need to be added to crew.
I asked some friends who have research background in infectious diseases and (land based) academic research lab experience. RT-PCR which some COVID-19 PCR tests currently use isn't the easiest procedure to execute in those settings compared to some other procedures which are more forgiving. That's to say, I got the feeling lab specialists would be needed. I don't know if there are traveling lab specialists like there are traveling/consulting doctors and nurses (hadn't realized how many of those were available in US who work short hospital contracts). Looks like some other tests are higher throughput and less tetchy RT-qPCR real-time RT-PCR

Here is another way of getting back into cruising, courtesy of Sea Dream. Even the staff don't wear masks:

More like a repeat nightmare. We now have a thread on the Sea Dream's misfortunes
