Royal Carribbean Med Cruise-Excursion Question
Hey all, 3rd time cruiser here. Wife and I are going on a 7 nt western Med cruise in May 2019. We will likely do a couple of shore excursions, particularly Marseille where we would like to see a winery or two. Anyone with experience on western Med? I'd like to know whether it is better to go with RC's excursions or a private one.

We’ve cruised the Med several times in the past six years and have done a mix of tours either private or ship arranged. For winery tours we’ve usually used ship’s tours as those are pretty straight forward and typically smaller groups. Might add Marseille is probably a good port fir winery tours as the city itself is not all that interesting. For historical or major sites of interest we use more private tours so as to not be included in huge bus loads. It helps we’ve done the Med all on smaller ships so even on the rare occasion where we’ve used a ship’s tour we’re not talking literally a cast of hundreds descending on a historical or major site.

Besides Marseille we have done wine tours in Monaco and Barcelona. We’ve been to these ports at least twice each and initially our focus was historical or popular sites and wine tours were secondary. Marseille from the start was wine tours. Really depends on what ports you’re going to, your personal interest, and the significant attractions.
