As a smaller ship alternative (also luxurious but cheaper for more "cozy" experiences) you can check (again single page cruises) on mv Marco Polo cruise ship (http://www.marcopolocruises.net/) for cruises from Tilbury (London, England). You can see there the prices as well - 8 night Norwegian Fjords, for example, in AUGUST (high season!) at £700 pp on a small luxury cruise ship (650 passengers) is a really nice deal Actually, most of the Marco Polo cruise prices are ~£100 pp per day.

As to the "How about what to make sure to pack for the cruise?", kendoll88, check these "first-cruise" packing tips (http://www.shipcruise.org/cruise-packing-tips/) with cruise packing lists and tips on what to pack and not to pack for your first cruise - cos for the next one you'll know all about the stuff!:p

What is it about flying that you fear? Small space? Claustrophobia? That might be a problem on a cruise ship. Fear of being 7 mile above the ground? Cruising would be fine.

I have never cruised before too, is there any good deals for cruise right now?

I'm a big fan of this site for tracking cruise deals... It lists them by cost per person per day:
http://www.cruisehotsheet.com/room_0.htm

Then get a quote on cruisecompete.com to find the best rate (and also compare to Costco)

this is my first post on here :)
i was originally joingin this forum to ask about holidays closer to me as to be honest, i'm teriffied of flying, to the extent that i have had to be sedated in the past,
Basically i've never been on a cruise before, might sound like a bit of a daft wuestion to put on a flying fourum, but i saw the section aha,
what are they like? arte there any things that i must know about beofre properly considering one? what companies are the best and where should i book one if i decide too?
Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

If it musnt be specially cheap: I went to the polar sea a couple of years ago. That was really nice! Have a watch out for cheap tours by AIDA.

Just booked our first cruise with our teenage children for August. Royal Caribbean for 7 nights going to Athens, Ephesus and a couple of other places. Looks to have plenty to do for teens and us.

Asking what going a cruise is like is similar to asking what staying in an all-inclusive holiday resort is like. No two resorts or cruises are alike. It depends on price, location, expectations, your personality and what you want out of the experience.

I have been on two major-market cruises. The first was to the Caribbean to try it out and a second to the South Pacific on a smaller ship. The second cruise was to challenge my initial impression that cruises are tiresome, somewhat moronic experiences that cater to the unadventurous and dull. The second trip only served to confirm and solidify my first impression.

Your mileage may vary.
