Vacations to go dot com?
Anyone ever used them? They always have the absolutely lowest prices quotes in print. I have used them to show a "real" consortium agent to meet or beat. My question is: has anyone used them? Have you use it in similar ways?

I don't know that it's appropriate to post her name here, but if anyone wanted it, I'd be happy to PM her information to you. But it's very easy to talk to a real person there, and as far as I know, they're completely based in Houston, so you're dealing with people there. |

We have used them and they were very helpful. Once you inquire with them you are assigned an agent so that person is familiar with you, your trip, etc. You don't get a different person each time you call and don't have to go through everything all over again or get different info. We will definitely use them again when booking another cruise.

I have used them 3 times and have no complaints. It is hard to beat their prices. One cruise was for Disney and I got a quote from them and then called Disney and they were more expensive. Don't know how they do it, but they provide good deals and customer service. Hope this helps. |
I used them, and love them.
Used them in Feb, I even got a discount when I traveled alone. They were wonderful.

 A single cruiser discount? That'd be a first and something I hadn't heard of before as there's always been a single passenger surcharge/supplement. Which cruise line?

They probably mean that they did not have to pay the 100% surcharge for traveling alone. Some cruise lines do have a single rate that is not double the 2 person rate. Vacationstogo have a tab on their website for single cruisers.

Maybe but not paying as large a normal single supplement to me isn't the same thing as a "discount" no matter how you slice it.

Nope, sorry. When someone says they fell on your floor they didn't mean my ceiling. Too bad newbie previous poster hasn't returned to add more.

Is it unusual for 3 newbie posters to sing the company praises? Two made it their first posts.

Low balling
The VTG quote failed to include port charges. They did not offer the airfare credit. They were not upfront about either of these. So I chose to use an agent from a large consortium who gave a more upfront quote.
We are happy with our upcoming cruise. Black Sea on Crystal. Only 6 months to go. |
I've used them twice:
the first time for a Regent cruise. We booked 3 cabins; got a decent price. Airfare included. I used them again for a Seadream cruise as well. No problems. They were always able to throw in a good amount of cabin credit. Actually now that I think about it, the Regent cruise had a promo going with additional cabin credit when I booked the first two cabins. I went back later and booked the third cabin thinking that it would get the credit as well. Flash forward to the cruise: it didn't, though we didnt realize this till the end. I sent VTG.com an email and they actually cut me a check for the amount. I worked with a specific agent at VTG, who was good at communicating over email. I did get him from a random inquiry to the website. So two good experiences. We went with a Seabourn specialist for out last cruise. Great price, and he actually sorted us out a nice upgrade (for all 3 cabins!) If you are thinking Seabourn PM me and I'll send you his info. FDW |
I just booked a cruise and VTG was absolutely in the running until a competitor threw in prepaid gratuities. I would have been quite happy to have used their services given the pleasant interaction with the sales rep.

I used VTG to book a transatlantic cruise last year. Celebrity. As I was traveling by myself, I inquired into the single plus supplement rate. Turns out it was cheaper (by just a few dollars though) to book phantom no-show for the other bed in my room. $398 per person for 14 days was still a deal at twice the price!
I've used them one other time also. No problems. And I'm not a newbie here. Romelle I also have good luck with Pavlus (www.cheapertravel.com). Have booked a number of tours with them -mostly just on-line. A couple minor issues (of my making, not theirs) were quickly and helpfully sorted out by their phone people though. |
I concur, VTG is totally legit.
But I've found that their prices tend to be a bit higher than the two agencies I've ended up with a few times - Pavlus Travel and CruCon. |
I've booked three cruises through VTG. They had the best advertised price on one of them. The second was a Celebrity Tuesday special that I booked through my same agent at VTG. The third was due to VTG matching a price that I had found online for my preferred Nov cruise. Overall I was happy with the service I received. They may not always be the lowest price though so it still make sense to shop around. That said, they've always matched my best deal when I've come back to them. I'm looking for a new agent now though as I'd like to have more confidence that when I first ask I'm getting their best deal.

Old thread but still pretty relevent. Any recent experiences?
Assuming it was meant to mean pricematching, but curious what a "real" consortium agent is as referred to by the OP? VTG has some prices way below that of the cruise line's price and even other discounters. |
Hi, I have used VTG a couple of times, and been very satisfied. I use their site a lot to get info on cruises, bases prices etc, and then I shop around. I use a multitude of ways to come up with the best price, including a brick and mortar agent, the cruiseline itself, and cruise compete. Just like with airlines, getting the best price/award ticket etc, takes work, and the cruises do take some work, along with checking (up til final payment) for price drops!
|
I have looked at the offers on VTG several times. Each time I got a quote, I went to a cruise line's website and saw the exact same price on the exact same room. I think they're a good point for reference, but nothing cheaper than what the line offers.
|
We used VTG for a Disney cruise a few years ago. All went as expected, except we did not get the $50 onboard credit we were quoted in their ad. After the cruise, I sent their agent an email question about the missing credit. He promptly replied with an apology and I recived a check for the credit amount a short time later.

Recently booked a Carnival cruise for 12 people through VTG (4 staterooms). They have quoted the past guest rate by mistake even though this would be our first cruise. This is about $260 per cabin discount. They finally realized their mistake, but honored the initially quoted rate. They paid the difference (4 x 260 = $1040) using their own credit card. I am very pleased with their integrity and customer service, and would definitely use them in the future.
