Flight Point "Unlocking" Tips?

Hi Guys!

So, I cashed mainly out of the ThY game at the start of the year when they did away with the fixed point redemptions, but I've still got a PremPass with a crap ton of flight points and I'd like to get them into ThY points.

Any recommendations for getting them out of the card and into the ThY account? I really don't want to spend $60k to get them out...

Sorry to be the one to break this to you, but I believe spending is the only way to go - if anyone out there knows of some 'magic trick' to free up flight points, I'd love to know it as well because I have the same problem. But, remember that PPE earns 2x points in supermarket, drugstores, and gas stations so if you spend heavily in those categories you don't need to spend $60k.

I suggest you call Citi and try get a retention offer out of them. As recently as 2 weeks ago, they were still offering 4x multipliers to some people.

Just open a Citibank account...

...and fund it with your card.

A few threads out there about doing this.

I've got the reverse problem to you. I have about 60K TYP's from spending (when I opened my bank account and used my PPE card to fund it), and have not flown anywhere near 60K miles.

Two questions,
1) Do you have any future need of this PremierPass card once the points are unlocked?
2) Do you have any future use for your TYP account once the points are unlocked and redeemed?

If you answer "No" to one of the questions above, there is a way to unlock at least part of your 60k flight miles

If you're talking to me, I don't have 60K flight miles. I have 60 TYP's (puchase points) that could instantly be matched to 'flight points' if I had any travel (or friends/family) traveling in the near future, or in other words the next 60K flight points I earn will immediately become TYP's. Unfortunately there's no travel in my (and families) immediate future.

...and if it's for me, then the answers are:

1) Not really.
2) Not really.

I've basically cashed out of that game. Right now, it's UA and Alaska that I'm working on, but overall I'm a little bit in flux since I'm going to be moving out of country and basically going to lose CC usage for about 2 years.. I just saw those 60k and thought, "dang, that's almost a Canon T1i....".
