That's exactly what I did, but kept going in circles. I never got to a place where I could actually create a number. I'll give it another try. Thanks to both of you.

I'm hopeless. I'm still going in circles.

I've downloaded and launched a few times, I'm already signed in, go back to "Tools & Services" and I'm right back at the "Download or Launch" screen.

Where exactly do I get a damn number?!

Again, would download and install via IE. Then use the app via FF.

After that......I would call the citihelp desk on the back of your card. They are quite good.

Good luck.

Finally. Thank you, msk6162. Generated on IE. Then had to call for help w/ date and limit setting. Must do it at time of generating (Advanced Options). I kept trying to change the first one I generated. [sigh]

Firefox blocks the app from popping up by default, however, just click on that info bar at the top of the page and select "show http......." with do the trick, you can also choose to always allow pop up from citi sites.

I used virtual account numbers a couple of years ago ago on a swedish bank (swedbank, lol). Worked very good. They had both use-only-once (and specified maximum charge), and use-multiple-times (and specified maximum charge).

I used it sometimes for hotels and some other Inet business. But now I don't bother anymore, and just use my usual CC:s. As long as it's a (standard) "secure" ssl-transfer I'm not that worried. And if I was unlucky and got scammed, I would say that swedish banks have a pretty good reputation of giving you your money back.

Does anyone know if Citibank Canada (or any other Canadian CC) offers virtual account numbers?

Yes, Citi AMEX does not have virtual account number feature. In fact, I am not aware of any AMEX that offers virtual account number. Please correct me if that is not true.

Nothing.

No AMEX card has such ability, not even the AMEX AMEX.

For BofA ShopSafe, I only see it for my former MBNA credit card. I like it better now because you can set a specific limit. The minimum limit used to be $50 but you can have it lower. :)

AMEX's blue credit card had them back in 2001. I haven't had the card since then and haven't looked at my other AMEX credit cards so YMMV.

You can always put in a limit on how much each number can charge. VAN is great for single and recurring charges from place you don't really trust.

I've run into an interesting issue with Citi VANs (Virtual Account Numbers): Citi's own IdentityMonitor service will not accept them.

Twice I've signed up for the service with Citi VANs, and each time I received a letter in the mail a week later stating that they could not charge my credit card. The CSRs were clueless.

Weird!
