Balance Transfer: How Long to Process?
I just accepted a "0% for 1 year w/ no transfer fee" offer. Basically, getting a 1-year interest free loan for $3,500. The offer says "may take up to 30 days" to process. What are others' experience with balance transfers? Does it typically take that long? I only have 2 weeks between when I accepted the offer and when the payment is due at Chase.
FYI, if it makes a difference, it is National City making payment to Chase. |
It will rarely take the full 30 days and should be complete with the 2 weeks. However, they give you that disclosure so you know you might have to make some payments to your other lender to avoid late fees.
Can you check your Nat'l City account online? How long do your online payments usually take to post? You can also, usually, pay via phone the day before the account is due if it still hasn't cleared. Nat'l City may charge you a fee for this |
I usually have balance transfers sent to my checking account if allowed, or to me as a check. To checking usually takes less than a week, so I assume a push to another CC would be about the same.
Make sure you are setup for online banking with Chase. Log into your account the day before your payment is due and if the BT has not hit yet, make at least the minimum payment to avoid a late fee. |
