HSBC Premier World MasterCard

Does anyone know if you earn both a 1% rebate as well as points in their reward program? I did a search and it wasn't clear. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I live in Hong Kong and my HSBC PREMIER MASTERCARD does not have both.. either points or rebate.. I saw you typed HSBC PREMIER WORLD MASTERCARD... is it different from mine? Which country do you live in? I am quite intrested in researching that card.. I only heard of HSBC PREMIER MASTERCARD.. i am very surprise if there is a different type of credit card.. As from my knowledge all HSBC PREMIER is the same..

Hope to hear more from you,

Have a nice day

Here is the link for the card here in the States.

I have the HSBC Premier credit card. The reward program is stupid. reward value:1%, but this card would not charge you any foreign exchange fee and get shopping discount in Hongkong. Hongkong's Premier credit card would charge 1.95% foreign exchange fee.

however the exchange rate of VISA is better than Mastercard. --- So the best foreign exchange rate is Capital One VISA.

Check this thread on this card I posted a while back:

http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=709255&

It is called the HSBC Premier World Mastercard in the US, but oddly some of the benefits are part of the home&away privileges include some of the same benefits HK holders get -- HK shopping discounts, so it makes this a global product, but you can only get in the US I think.

Yes no FX fee on international or foreign transactions - foreign or US currency.

I too think the reward program is a joke. No select spend bonus for everyday items or travel etc.... Thought is is unlimited 1% with no monthly or annual cap. Yet is better than HSBC Debit with you Premier accounts -- as purchases on that card get no rewards at all!

I think you get 1% earnings in the form of points to be redeemed for cash or from the catalogue.

My HSBC Premier Mastercard is issued in Asia. It says it is "World" beside the mastercard logo. I believe it is a World Mastercard then.
Does yours say "world"? Mine is dark blue-purple in color.

Same as LUIAL, the word "World" is printed in very minimal font beside the MASTERCARD logo. I live in PH, by the way.

I am not sure with the 1% rebate program with HSBC PREMIER in PH, but the points reward program has been with HSBC here for a long time. And just not too long ago, they also offered "double the points" that ran for three months. I think they do this annually. These points can be use for item rewards or frequent flyer miles conversion. I guess it varies from country to country. But I have significantly enjoyed much of the discounts (up to 15%) that I availed with retail stores here.

Hi beyridge,

I'm from the PH too :)
HSBC Premier locally does not have the 1% rebate program. We only enjoy double points (P5/point vs. regular cards - gold, silver @ P10/point) and the occasional double rewards points ^

I see that you are new to FT, welcome to FT then! :)

Enrollment Requirements

Not sure if you have tried to apply for the card, but here are the terms:

To qualify for HSBC Premier, you need to maintain $100,000 in combined personal deposit and investment balances or $500,000 in combined personal deposit, investment, and credit/mortgage balances. Business owners may use their commercial balances to qualify for personal Premier membership. A monthly maintenance fee of $50 will be incurred if minimum balance requirements are not maintained.

Qualification

To quailfy for HSBC PREMIER in Hong Kong, you need to have at least
"ONE MILLION HONG KONG DOLLARS" in your account. The credit card comes with the account but HSBC still might not offer you the credit card but most likely they do.I have seen some expections not offering you the card for some people.

In Canada, it is just called Premier MasterCard. The benefit is so so, but at $0 annual fee, it is not bad. The point benefit is not as good as RBC Avion. Interest rate is lower, however, I don't think anyone is going to carry a balance on their CC if they meet the HSBC requirement. The 1% cashback is not impressive at all since a few cards offer that as well.

Again, this card does have some benefit. For fee free, I can't complaint.
