CitiAA Plat Miles Crediting Problem
Hi all,
I got the AA Platinum Mastercard from Citibank two months ago. I got the card because it offered a 20K bonus if you spent $750 w/i 4 months. I got my second billing statement about 2 weeks ago, and had broken the $750 mark on that statement. The statement showed that they had transmitted 20,000 bonus + XXX purchase miles to American, but only the XXX purchase miles have posted to my AAdvantage account. I called Citi and they say it has been transmitted and it's AA's problem. I call AA and they say it's Citi's issue. So what do I do? Thanks for any and all help! P.S. Mods, please feel free to move to AA forum if you feel appropriate. |

Thanks. The statement does show the miles have been reported to AA. AA just only posted the purchase miles.
I'll try contacting AA again. |

I'll try contacting AA again. Please let us know how it develops and reconciles; and any protocols you have to follow in order to resolve the conundrum. Best, etc., kaukau |
Update:
Called AA a couple times, and they refuse to credit me. They keep telling me to call Citi, but Citi has already reported the miles to AA! Tomorrow I will fax a letter including a copy of my statement (with important areas blacked out so AAgents can't make chAArges) and see what response I get. If that doesn't work I'll send a certified letter. And if that doesn't work...I don't know what I can do, short of suing for breach of contract. ;) |
Just wait another few weeks the miles should appear on their own... It's citibank's fault, they have NOT transmitted the miles despite what the statement says... They have done this before, they are messed up over there...

I got my first statement last week. it shows $810 spending and 25000 bonus miles. nothing showed up on my AA account, and I called citi today, the rep claimed that only after I pay the bill the miles would show.

This has been a somewhat common occurence. It is Citi that is the problem. Make sure your AA account was creditied with the spending part of the "miles reported to AA" So, if you spent $800, the "miles reported to AA should read
800 +25,000 reported to AA. If the 800 miles show up on you AA account, you know the FF# is correct and they have everything in place. It sounds like this was the case with you. I recently just got my bonus posted after 4 months of yelling and screaming. T&C specifically states 8-10 weeks before the miles will post. Most of the time the miles post immediatley, however, me and others have reported an inconsistency in the dates and times the miles post, but in most cases they do post within the 8-10 weeks. AA will not even open an investigation unless the 10 weeks have expired. Hopefully on the second statement the bonus will post. Just because Citi says "miles reported to AA", this IS NOT THE CASE. Citi is still in control of these miles. Good Luck! Jim |
Jim (and others), thanks for your input. I appreciate hearing that it is likely to really be Citi's problem even though the statement shows the miles were reported to AA.
And, yes, in my case the purchase miles posted. So they definitely have the right account! Will let you all know how this all works out. (And how long it takes.) |

800 +25,000 reported to AA. the CSR told me they will credit my AA account when I pay the bill :( |
I have had two cards recently where the purchase miles were credited to my account but the bonus miles didn't come until the following statement. I don't like it but the bonus miles always get posted sooner or later.

^ ^ Yup, Citi was correct: the miles have been sent to AA, and indeed it is now AA's and your kuleana. (responsibility)
Please let us know how it develops and reconciles; and any protocols you have to follow in order to resolve the conundrum. Best, etc., kaukau My february Citibank statement showed the spend plus purchases posting to my AA account, yet only the spend miles showed up. It wasn't until September of that year that the 20,000 mile bonus finally posted! My advice, keep copies of your applications including the T&C's, you may need them and keep hounding Citibank, because that's where the problem lies. |
Bummer to learn about Citibank's duplicity. At least with BofA, when the statement show the miles as sent: they're sent.
Good luck! |

I recently had the same problem and it took 7 months and numerous calls to Citibank to finally rectify the problem! Yes, it is entirely a Citibank problem! From incompetent CSR's and Managers, to outright lies. I had CSR's tell me that the T&C's I printed out when I applied for the card were not correct, CSR Supervisors tell me over the phone that they were instituting an investigation and noting that on my account. I would call back later and NO ONE could even find any information or notes on my account about an investigation. That happened 3 different times and the Supervisors assurred me that they would take care of the problem each and every time. I finally got Citibank to post the miles, after I threatened legal action and stated I would report Citibank to my State's Attorney for Consumer Fraud.
