Sears Rewards

Wonder if anyone could offer some advice here.

Been paying sears $25 per year for some time for the sears rewards program.

April 07 received a notice that if I dont turn a certain amount of points in, they would be lost. Due to a time frame as I work on a ship in the great lakes a decided to take four certificates for $50 each. They arrived and stayed in my top draw till now.

Just arrived home for Christmas, only to find they have expired and unable to redeem them to buy gifts.

Contacted them, they said there is nothing they can do, saying that I should have got cards which dont expire.

This sounds so typical, when trying to decide what to redeem, who knows or even realises that a certificate or a card even has an expiry date. Why would it have an expiry and even if it does, why cant it be re-issued?

I am extreemly upset about this and customer service couldn't care less, and told me to have a nice day.

Any suggestions please, and even is this a good thread for this question,
many thanks...

Send polite letter to Sears President or CEO requesting explanation and correction of problem (get fax # and and name and address from Yahoo biz, fax with confirmation sheet to show sending). If that doesn't work (keeping mind that Sears is not great on customer service) complain in writing to your State Attorney General's consumer protection office. Many states have laws prohibiting expiration of gift certificates.

By the way, don't shop at Sears. :td: For example, I like Kenmore appliances, but recent shopping for a new dryer found the pricing uncompetitive and the service not too good. Sears is a great old name, but it is now in the hands of looters.

Great suggestions, How can I find if Michigan has such a law?

(Many states have laws prohibiting expiration of gift certificates)

Wonder why gift cards don't have expiration dates?

Thanks again,

Some times you gotta do you own research. Took about 12 seconds to find this site by searching on ask.com. :D

But, don't worry about the law right now. Send the letter and see what they do. @:-)

By the way, lots of gift cards do have expiration dates. Gift cards, generally, are a bit of a scam, since many go unused or expire.

Meanwhile, don't shop at Sears.

Sears Places Spyware on Sears Rewards Customers' Computers

Here's a really good reason to stay away from Sears.

"Did Sears conclude that the only accurate way to see what consumers were truly doing online was to track customers who didn't know they were being tracked?

Did Sears decide to give its holiday shoppers the gift that keeps on taking, Spyware? It appears that Sears isn't disputing that it did distribute spyware, but merely that consumers knew that they were agreeing to spyware. (See related story about Sears shutting down another Sears E-Commerce that revealed consumer purchases. Another related story: analyzing a
the lawsuit filed against Sears for its latest data breach.)

The $53 billion retailer is learning that the online world—with its thousands of bloggers armed with screen captures—is fairly unforgiving when it comes to marketing excesses."

I would go right to the top. Phone number for Aylwin Lewis President and CEO
of Sears 1-847-286-5097. Hope this helps.
