I'd Love Some Help

I just found this forum and it's awesome. I'm about to switch from my Visa card (it's an LLBean rewards card which is useless to me.) I'd like to know which card would be best for airline travel. My husband has a Delta skyMiles card (nds 50,000 miles for a trip.) We don't fly all that much but we do spend lots of money. As long as I'm changing cards I'd love your thoughts as to which would be best.

I was about to apply for Capitol One (gotta love David Spade!) but I read on this forum that I should NOT. I was hoping to be able to get miles for a large balance I'd be transferring. And not have to pay an annual fee....

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Are you specifically looking for an additional card to earn Delta miles, or for miles on other airlines? When Capital One advertises that their cards earn miles "good on any airline" they do not mean that miles can be transferred to an airline frequent flyer program. Instead, they have their own mileage program and you would have to spend the full amount required to earn an award.

I don't care about Delta miles anymore. I'm looking for a card to earn miles on other airlines.

Thanks

SPG AmEx is the favorite card among FTers and there are many posts about it. I suggest you do search this forum, AmEx or Starwood forums.

Addtionally, this could be a good starting point - http://blogs.flyertalk.com//blogs/vi..._how_to_c.html

I think you will find all of the info you need by reading the three pages in the Credit Card section of my website below.

SPG may be 'most popular', but I am currently very high on the Citi Thank You Rewards Program. Works best if you fly a fair amount and want to redeem a fair amount of travel - a combination of an AT&T Universal Rewards Card plus a Citi Premier Pass Elite Card will get you a net 2-3% on all purchases and the ability to spend those points at at least 1.5-2 cents each. Net cash back equivalent on all spending is nearly 5%, which beats just about anything out there. The big advantage over SPG is the points are spent for travel directly with TY Network's travel agency, thus no transfer to an airline is required, and you don't have to deal with all the limited award availability and various rules of airline award redeptions.

There are several extensive threads about this program in this forum.

FWIW: I do most of my intelligence gathering here on FT, sometimes for my credit card history I go to an aggregated site called www.comparethecard.com as it has all the features and benefits of each card, whether it's airlines, hotels, transfer cards, etc

Just my two cents

Good luck :)
