Any Current Balance Transfer Deals?

I have a card that is ending a promotional 0% interest period in January 06. I have a large balance on the card and (fortunately) the cash to pay it off. However, I was hoping to get one last mileage/points score out of this. Are there any super deals on new cards w/balance transfers right now? The interest rate doesn't really matter since I will be paying it off immediately, but balance transfer fees and annual fees are a consideration. One other important note is the current card is through Chase, so I can't transfer to another Chase card.

Thanks!

I just received a mailer from CapitalOne.

Transfer $8000 and keep the card for 6-8 months. No annual fee.

They will give you 35,000 miles or credit of $350 toward a ticket.

Good luck with this.

I'm really tempted to take them up on it but I don't have $8000 to transfer (I pay off my CC's each month)

Cheers!

Get a Citi card, which offers free cash advances at 0% for 12 months. Do an electronic transfer into your checking account for ~95% of the full credit line, and put it in your ING Direct (or similar) account. Transfer the balance to the Capital One card. Then do another free cash advance on the Citi card and again put it in your savings account. You get the Capital One promotion and you can take advantage of the interest on your interest-free loan from both cards.

The Providian MyPoints card comes to mind, but there are others. On my website below, go to the Credit Card section, then on each of the pages Free Cards and Annual Fee Cards, click on the page you get (important), then do a word search on "0%".

Anyone doinng 0% balance transfers should first read my cautions on this on my Important Starting Info page my Credit Card section.

Thanks for the info... can you provide further info on the 35,000 miles or $350? Is the $350 credit good for only one ticket, or multiple purchases until you use up the credit?

As for the APR, I'm presuming it's 0%... is that correct?

Thanks again!

Here's the the FAQ's in the mailer.....verbatim.....

'Q: Is ther a 'catch' for getting my ticket?'
'A: All we ask form you is that you transfer at least $8,000 worth of balances to the card today and keep a blance on your card for at least six billing cycles.'

'Q: What happens if I redeem my miles for my ticket, but don't keep my account open for six months or more?'
'A: We'll simply ask that you repay the cost of your ticket by charging your No Hassle Miles card for the amount.'

'Q: Are there any restrictions on the type of ticket I can get?'
'A: You can get any ticket, from any airline to anywhere. And we'll cover the cost, up to $350. If you want to use your 35,000 miles toward a more expensive ticket and pay the difference, you're more than welcome to do that as well.'

'Q: If I use my No Hassle Miles card for everyday purchases, can I use those rewards with my ticket?'
'A: Absolutely. When you transfer at least $8,000 in balances with your Invitation, you'll automatically get 35,000 miles to use for a ticket up to $350. You can earn more miles by using the card everyday, and combine all your miles for an even more expensive ticket.'

'Q: What if I'm not ready to travel now, or not interested in getting an airline ticket?'
'A: Your ticket is applied to your account as 35,000 miles. So you can redeem those miles immediately, or wait until you're ready to travel. If you decide you'd rather have cash, a gift card or merchandise instead of an airline ticket, simply log on to www.capitalone/nohasslemiles and select something else. The choice is yours.'

Cheers!!

Is this a 0% balance transfer for the 6 months? If so this is a great deal, but if the balance transfer posts at a higher percentage you might actually lose money by doing this.

I went to the application page and it doesn't say what the % is on the first page. Does it say on the invite?

JiggyForMiles Jan 7, 2006 12:57 am

4.99% is the apr for the life of the balance.
I figure if you do this, pay off everything but $1 and keep a balance on the $1 to satisfly the 6 month balance requirement. Everything should be good after that.
If you get this card, let me know how it goes.
Cheers.
