MP Visa - 1,000 miles for adding credit protector
 

Even though I always pay my balance in full each month, I was offered 1,000 miles for adding credit protector to my new card. The rep said I could cancel within 30 days with no penalties, so I plan to take my 1000 miles and then cancel the credit protector. Anyone also been offered a similar offer?

After upgrading to the Gold Class Visa, I was offered the same deal and accepted it. I ended up getting the 1,000 miles for free, but there was a bit of hassle involved.

First, I had to call up to cancel and endure some pressure not to cancel. What was hilarious is that when I called the Credit Protector number and finally reached an live person, his first question was "Why do you want to cancel this service?"

I guess most people who call are asking to cancel, as I hadn't even explained the reason why I was calling! :D

After some repetitive fear-based pleadings to keep the service, such as "you never know when you may suddenly lose your job or be seriously injured," I firmly insisted on canceling and received confirmation in the mail.

The roughly $32 in premiums that had been billed to my card were promptly credited back as promised, but I didn't receive my miles until calling MP Visa customer service about 8 weeks later.

I just accepted this offer and I'm wondering how long I should wait to cancel so that I will still get my 1000 miles. Maybe since they send a confirmation I can cancel ASAP and still have proof? Thanks in advance.

I was told my their customer service that I should wait for my miles after first billing statement with First Protect and may cancel after that.

Thanks. I thought the miles wouldn't show up for 6-8 weeks but you only have 30 days to cancel. My goal is to not have to pay ANYTHING extra but still get miles from this card.

Just cancel credit protector within 30 days and then follow up with customer service to get the miles. The fact that I had already canceled the trial was never even mentioned by MP Visa CS! :) Good luck!
