Amtrak Visa
I'm interested in signing up for this affinity card, esp. since more credit card companies are charging the extra fees for international transactions.
What are people's thoughts on the viability of Amtrak and whatever or not potential problems at Amtrak will affect the card and the Amtrak frequent user program? Thanks |
kishna -- You may want to know that Amtrak GuestRewards credit card from MBNA is a MasterCard, not a Visa.

I've only had the card for a couple of months, but so far, I REALLY like it. The MBNA customer service has been good. Actually, the feature I like most of this card is their website. Better than any other out there. You can view all card transactions almost immediately. Even the ones that are pending!
In case you're curious, posting of points to Amtrak statement takes about 8 - 10 days. I have to admit I like everything about the card. Too bad Amtrak's future is kind of hazy right now. I do hope Amtrak's program will stay afloat for a long time, though... |
I wouldn't be too worried about Amtrak shutting down, especially along the east coast.

Amtrak's "troubles" are not thoroughly likely to come to complete fruition so much as they're likely to make Amtrak re-assess their situation.
Guest Rewards and the Acela trains show a large amount of new and better thinking. as for MBNA, i love them, and they allowed me to open a second account on top of my current LL Bean account so as to lose neither feature set. their CS is a little cloying sometimes, but very good, and the 1:1/no annual fee thing is Very Good. |
I have any question about this card. It doesn't seem to have an option for a joint account (but does have authorized users).
It appears that only one Amtrak guest rewards number is tied to each card. But if I sign up for the card and have my wife be an authorized user, can I have CO or United miles be deposited into her CO/United frequent flyer accounts for some months and into my CO/United frequent flyer accounts for other months? Or is it the case too that each Amtrak Guest rewards number can only tie into one CO and one United FF account? The reasons we don't want to get separate MC accounts is that if we combine our spending on one card, we can more easily meet the $5,000 threshold for transferring to FF accounts. Thanks. |
