Interesting to see RH supposedly win the bid for the Oura membership perk over Amex. Makes the Amex Plat feel a bit incomplete by comparison (who is going to buy a new ring every year?)

Benefits summary: https://api.robinhood.com/creditcard...efits-overview

TL;DR - Coupon book. Dining credits are $20/month (except December at $30), DoorDash has a minimum and is also split into $10 coupons, Oura ring membership limited to 1 year free, travel/hotel credits are semi-annual (though the travel credit is not limited to their portal, which is nice) with a 2 night minimum for hotel, autonomous rides are monthly. Big meh.

As I read the Robinhood offer the cardholder must purchase a Ring plus a Membership, and only the Membership fee is reimbursed. I do not see any indication that the membership will be reimbursed in future years. How is this better than the American Express version which reimburses the cost of the ring and does not require purchasing a membership?

probably isn't better

It looks like RH has taken the coupon book approach to a whole new level!

coupon book complexity seems similar to amex platinum

except Robinhood platinum gives 5% back in dining whereas Amex plat does not

You can't have both the Robinhood Gold Card and the Robinhood Platinum Card. Apparently it was explained at the launch event, according to AwardWallet.

It looks like you might need to have the Gold Card first because they keep saying "upgrade" in the announcement video.

But I can't find the mention that you can't have both in the video. Maybe it came up during the Q&A, which Robinhood didn't record and upload to YouTube.

Maybe things have changed since I cancelled my Plat a couple of years ago. I don't remember a minimum spend to use the credits.

This is now the King of coupon book credit cards.

For anyone playing that game, it could be great I guess. There's definite value in excess of the AF, no doubt about it.

I'll pass. I have enough coupon clipper CC's that I am already culling down at this point.

I hope other CC issuers don't follow suit. It's one thing to divide the credits into small chunks to encourage additional spend. It's totally different when requiring spend to be above a certain level to use the credits. It's more like discounts than credits, IMHO.

I do not see this mentioned, where is it explained?

Maybe I misread it, doesn't DoorDash credit require $50 spend? While the "generic" dining credit doesn't have a minimum spend, it does require "participating" restaurant. I guess that's akin to Amex's Resy credits. It sounds like it would be great for those that already do these spends. I wonder how popular this card would get.

yes DoorDash credit requires $50 spend on food (tip, delivery, service, express fee don’t count)

I meant; for someone who uses the credits normally, the Robinhood monthly and minimum spend requirements are a non-issue.

However if you’re someone who tries to find a $50 Saks fork and spoon on Jan 1 and July 1, or buys $75 Lululemon gift cards exactly on the first of each quarter, or uses Uber exactly once a month just to consume the UberCash, then yeah, the Robinhood complexity is too much and makes the game “not worth it”

I mean, look at all the people buying two or three Oura rings with their multiple Amex platinum cards, because “omg $200 credit, I must use it to win the game”. Come on guys, you wouldn’t have even bought the Oura ring if it weren’t for the credit; and you’re still out $100-200 since the credit doesn’t cover the full ring cost.

then again, I switched to team cash back (Robinhood gold 3%) so don’t care for coupons anymore 🤷🏻‍♂️ and I don’t plan on getting the Robinhood platinum
