Cell phone insurance/protection benefit
Apologies if the mods feel this isn't the proper forum for it...
After Barclay's just announced that they're dropping the cell phone insurance benefit from their AA cards, I started searching for a different card that has this benefit. I've found several options to consider, BUT have a nitpicky question I wanted to run by people here in case someone has additional insight or personal experience to report.
In researching this, I started reading the T&Cs. Both the Amex Platinum and the MasterCard benefit terms for cell phone insurance have this exclusion in their T&Cs in the "What is NOT covered" section:
Replacement of Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone(s) purchased from anyone other than a cellular service provider’s retail or internet store that has the ability to initiate activation with the cellular service provider;
So if I bought my phone from BestBuy, that would suggest that it is not covered. Although BestBuy is able to activate it on the Verizon network, so if I took advantage of that, does that now mean that it *is* covered because the store has the ability to initiate activation with the cellular service provider?
I just looked up the T&Cs of the Wells Fargo protection, as an example, and it does NOT have the same language. I'm not sure if that's Visa's language or if they're doing their own thing.
