Quite possible, especially since Evolve Bank (the bank they use to process rent payments) has been caught in all sorts of (public) regulatory and legal issues and has had other "fintech" clients end their relationship with them.

Yeah, not sure what the real deal is. I suspect Bilt is switching to a different bank resulting in "expiration" of existing rent payment account.

Color me confused. Many unanswered questions:
Many of us do not have a property portal, we make payments via an ACH debit based on account and routing number provided by hardcopy paper form to our property management. For those who make payments by the above method, the actual ACH debit date varies from month to month, by several days, thus making “within 5 days” impossible to predict. We give the management company the account and routing numbers, exactly when THEY choose to process the ACH debit is their choice. Any fees involved with using “any other credit card”? “Each month, pre-authorize” seems like a big step backwards, like writing a check every month, compared to all the automated procedures now in effect. It’s possible Bilt is making things more difficult and complicated in an effort to decrease usage for rent, for which they lose money. OTOH, if “earn both Bilt Points AND your card's rewards” (with no fees) turns out to be true, this might be a beneficial change. |

So what happens if I forget to pre-authorize one day? This seems pretty dumb.

With credit card payments there is a 3% transaction fee, with a minimum fee of $3. Debit card payments have a fixed fee of $9.95 You can make housing related payments for up to one residential property per month, these may include: security deposits, HOA fees, college housing, utilities or internet. You confirmed this transaction on 03/02/2025. Payment submitted Feb, 27 2025 PM Bank account charged Mar, 01 2025 AM Vaccount payment complete Mar, 02 2025 AM |

The Bilt reddit post with the announcement now has an FAQ that added that they're adding an "auto-authorize" feature you can activate. Good. That should alleviate most concerns.
|
I'd like to confirm my interpretation if anyone else here is in a Bilt building like we are. I didn't receive an email about the change and from what I read, it says those living in Bilt buildings don't have to worry about the change.
Does that sound correct? |
How does one make multiple payments moving forward?
|
So they do indeed seem to have moved away from Evolve given their troubles.

I had read about this on DoC so thought I would give it a try...... In case anyone had any doubts about how it worked. Another update, yesterday (the 20th) was my last day for the 5x points. I got an email in the afternoon today giving me another 30 days of 5x on groceries, gas and dining. Of course this came AFTER my weekly Trader Joe's run I did in the morning. |
New BillPay (not BiltPay) FAQ: https://support.biltrewards.com/hc/e...w-does-it-work
No action required at the end of March, but is required for the end of April. |
This is intriguing.
Is there a limit to the number of payments I can make via BillPay? Can I make separate payments for rent, utilities, etc.? You can make up to three (3) BillPay payments per 30-day period. These can be separate and may include rent, HOA fees, utilities, and internet.

Right, but I take it to mean that now paying my electric utility, and internet service charges monthly (and separately from rent) using the ACH account is officially kosher and should earn me Bilt points?

Maybe. I would try it but 5x on utilities from the Wyndham Business card is better than 1x Bilt...
|
Many utilities won't (yes, even in AD 2025) accept credit cards or otherwise remove auto-pay discounts for paying with anything other than a checking account, hence the (expanded) appeal of Bilt's ACH account.

Bilt has always allowed HOA fee payments.
I have been paying my HOA fees with Bilt as an "e-check" (my HOA payment portal's no-fee option, as it's technically a bank transfer) since I got my card more than two years ago. The transactions go through fine, even though my HOA sends me two charges every month (HOA fee and my portion of the property tax), even before this bill pay switch. The merchant name even says HOA. |

for apr rent day promo, bilt is offering up to 100% bonus for transfer to avios. i wonder what's everyone's take on this? is it worth the speculative transfer? i mean it is a very enticing offer and i do have some avios left that i would like to burn, meaning i would need a top up at some point. but at the same time, i have always stayed clear of transferring speculatively

I’m cashing everything to BA. Don’t want to hold Bilt points
EDIT: The transfer bonus is 100% Platinum 75% Gold 60% Silver 50% Blue |

I set up BillPay. I don't feel like this process is any different but just adds extra unnecessary steps. I don't think it tested my linked bank account's balance (I'm using BiltProtect still as I don't really want a hard pull for a credit limit increase at the moment)
I'll add an anecdote that I don't think the proportion of Platinum and Gold members in their target audience is very high. Today on March 27th you can book a free fitness at 10:50AM ET for Platinum and Gold members and 11:00AM ET for Silver and Blue members. At 10:59AM ET, only a few spots were filled in the NYC classes and maybe one spot here and there in other locations. The app experiences a large slowdown then when everyone tries to book at once - popular classes fill up almost immediately at 11:00AM ET while the rest fill up in the next 45 minutes (at 11:41 ET there are still a handful of spots left). Obviously not everyone cares about fitness classes, but I'd assume Platinum and Gold members in the target Bilt demographic of "rich NYC millenial" would want to sign up. However, it is possible that this demographic already pays for classes so the Bilt benefit is worthless to them. Or many Platinum/Gold members made it through MS and aren't interested in fitness classes. |
Bilt's integration with Plaid (software that connects bank accounts to other services) has been killed. I'm trying to add the new BillPay routing/checking numbers to my housing portal (you have to do the manual deposit way because Plaid is broken) and nothing is working. I'm going to try using the old numbers since they claimed this doesn't start until the end of April, but a quick heads up for anyone trying to do this.

I relinked the BillPay today and it has been fixed with Plaid. Shows up as a checking account with $50,000 balance. COLUMN N.A.: Checking Account Ending in XXXX

What's the turnaround time on applications these days?
Just applied in-app and all I got was an email saying they would get back to me with a decision. |
Applied around 230pm on April 14th, received an email from WF a few minutes later that my application was under review.
Hard pulls didn't hit my credit file for about an hour (got notifications/emails from several credit apps/services). Just got an email response today, the 16th, that I've been approved for $20k CL. |
We're updating how you pay rent through Bilt .... Your current Rent Rewards account will expire on April 29, ... your rewards aren't changing, just how you submit your monthly payment at non-Bilt properties. … Our revamped BillPay by Bilt system is designed for members who don't live at Bilt partner properties ... … The Bilt Team For those of us who have previously paid rent or condo fees for a non-partner property with no online management portal via a hard copy ACH (pull) form, anyone willing and able to write a step-by-step procedure (“like I’m a 6 year old”) for the new process? (Yes, I’m aware that I’m asking to be spoon fed which some people are loath to do* for any number of reasons including time commitment. Please note that I spent a great deal of time writing the comprehensive original WikiPost for this thread.) Thank you. (* The correct phrase is "loath to do". "Loath" is an adjective meaning reluctant or unwilling, while "loathe" is a verb meaning to dislike intensely. The phrase "loath to do" means unwilling to do something.) BREAK I’ve |
FWIW I just got an email that they're finally supporting rent payments on Zillows renter hub... for the past 2.5 years I've had to manually email Bilt each month with a screen shot of the rent payment I made WITHOUT using BIlt since their system wasn't compatible, and they'd manually credit the points each month.
Allegedly it'll work now, though only with that "you have to authorize the specific amount 5 days in advance each time" thing or it'll be rejected. Won't know for sure for another 9 days when I get within 5 days of due date though. |
A technical error apparently revealed JAL as an upcoming transfer partner. Will be interesting if that actually happens.

LOL, I'm not interested in Southwest points. No way.

The number of partners being added is very impressive. How do they manage to do these when others cannot?
