What strategy advice to collect them all efficiently

Hi all,

New to this credit card game and have done a lot of reading but i can't figure out the best way forward, would love your advice.

Here are my current cards:
OCT-2016: AMEX CR (Personal)
25-AUG-2017: CSR (Personal)
25-SEP-2017: CIP (Business)
01-NOV-2017: Chase Marriott Rewards Business (Business)
So that puts me at 2/24 for personal cards.

On my wishlist:
AMEX Platinum Ameriprise (Personal)
Southwest Rapid Rewards Business (Business)
Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus (Personal)
Marriott Rewards (Personal)

Of course 3 of those 4 are on chase's 5/24 rule and i'm already at 2/24.

Ideally, i want to get the AMEX platinum in 2017 to get the $200 travel credit in 2017 and then again in 2018. Going for Ameriprise because no AF and the regular personal offer is only 60k (waiting for 100k).

So, if i apply for AMEX in 2017, that puts me at 3/24, meaning i only have 1 chase card left.

Maybe i can do AMEX, then Chase Southwest Business (no credit hit) and then apply for the last personal Chase Southwest Personal.

That means i miss out on the marriott rewards card. No big deal but i would like that points bonus (i stay at marriotts often) and it ties well with the status match from the AMEX.

What are my chances of applying for both:
Southwest Rapid Rewards Personal + Business in 1 day?
Keep in mind the credit limit for my last card (marriott business) was only $5k which i think is the minimum. Meaning i'm close to reaching my credit ceiling?

Do i have to wait for instant approval before doing the next application? Because if it gets manually reviewed won't they see that i applied for 2 in 1 day pushing me over 5/24?

5/24 only applies to chase cards i believe.

You can have 5 Chase cards and an Amex, per se

That's incorrect. The 5/24 rule applies across all banks for the purpose of applying for Chase cards.

Apply for only business cards where possible. Business cards from most banks (Capital One and Discover being the main exceptions) don't show up on credit reports, and thus don't count toward 5/24.

Apply for any Chase business cards first (before any Chase personal cards). Based on all the data points we've gotten, Chase doesn't seem to count its own business cards (even though in theory you'd think they could). So applying for Chase business cards shouldn't increase your N/24 count.

If you apply for Chase business cards first, that should let you get at least one more Chase card than if you apply for the Chase business cards last.

And if you've never had the Amex Plat biz, you may to re-evaluate that vs the Amperise, because the Amex Plat Biz won't increase your N/24 while the Amperise will.

And I agree with BuBu4 that you may want to consider a Freedom card if you don't already have one, for the rotating 5x.

Doctor of Credit is reporting that targeted 100K AMEX Plat offers are available to some via the Card Match tool.

Thanks guys, all good tips.

The AMEX plat biz has too high a spend at $10k for 50k, I don’t think it’s worth it at this stage. Would rather concentrate on reaching min spend for the southwest cards and Marriott. I don’t MS unfortunately!

Thanks for the new tip on the 100k plat. Tried but no luck. Also tried all the other tricks but none have been successful for 100k. I even got a mail offer of 60k lol!

So next stop:
1) Biz Southwest
2) AMEX Plat Ameriprise
3) + 4) Southwest Personal + Marriott Personal (in a few months to give buffer between applications)

I might skip the freedoms because I don’t take advantage of rotating categories much (only dining but that has 3x through CSR) as I do most my grocery and fuel at Costco and Sams Club.

Only issue is, am I running out of room to be approved for more biz credit?
Marriott Biz was approved for 5k (CIP, my first biz, was $10k). Likelihood of getting another 5k approval for biz Southwest?

On that note, is personal credit limit linked to my biz? If so then I might be running out of steam for personal apps!!

Moving to the CCP Forum as this thread covers multiple banks.

I stand corrected.

Pretty sure you can apply for all of them? You just have to do it in order.

If you're at 2/24 you can apply for THREE more Chase cards before you're cut off. Since you have 3 that you want, that's easy. After that you can get the Amex, albeit it will be much later.

Done.

5/24 means 5 cards or under, not under 5 cards so you're all set as long as the AMEX goes last!

Wrong! Some people get denied at exactly 5/24, and some don't. Exactly 5/24 is YMMV. But if you don't want to risk denial (for 5/24 reasons), you have to get to 4/24.

But 5/24 only counts opened cards, not the card you're applying for. So if the OP wanted 3 personal cards and is at 2/24, they'd not get to 5/24 until after they got all 3 cards.

But one of the cards the OP wants is a business card, so with 2 personal cards and 1 business card they'll only from 2/24 to 4/24.

I apoologize if I was unclear. I didn't realize I could be misunderstood, so thanks for clarifying that further. I was actually under the impression that almost everyone got denied once they were at 5/24 opened cards except for people with Private Banking. I was trying to basically indicate what you clarified. The OP clearly thought that he could not apply for 3 cards despite being at only 2/24.

And I've read that the Business cards are also YMMV. I seem to remember some people indicating that the Ink line falls under 5/24 as well, although that isn't one of the cards on his wishlist.
