Read post 844 for tips on being approved for the business card.
It may be easier to get approved for a new business with 0 years and $0 gross income.

Also see the Applying for Business Credit Cards [Consolidated] thread (not-BofA-specific) for general tips on applying for business cards.

Business card Recon Line:
April 2024: BOA Biz Recon (Small Biz Lending, Credit Analyst) 888-782-7717, 888-569-4439 (M-F 8am-7pm EST), both answered by live human in 2-4 minutes. (Both numbers confirmed multiple times in the past 2-3 days.)
866-695-6598 (8-7pm EST M-F)
Biz card status line: 888 663 6262 (not working)
Biz Card credit analyst line: 888-782-7717
Biz card expedited shipping: wait 24 hours after approval for a card number to generate then call 800-901-9830 and a person will answer. If 1st Rep says "no" ask him/her to ck. with a supervisor. This worked for me.

Credit Inquiries
Credit Inquiries for Personal cards come from BofA. Inquiries for business cards come from FIA.
Credit bureaus usually merge inquiries from the same requester made on the same day.
Inquiries from BofA and FIA will not be merged.

Does one have to call BoA to lower a card's credit limit?
Yes, there is no longer any way to contact BOA online. Phone is the only method currently.

When do the initial bonus miles post? You will get the miles after the statement closes for the cycle in which you meet your minimum spend. Usually AS points show up the Sunday evening after your statement closes, but sometimes it takes an additional week.

If there's a statement credit, when does it post?
It seems to be batch-processed. It will post automatically. Can be on the same statement or the next statement. It does not appear to be based on the statement close date.

Can you send a secure message through your account online?
No. BOA has removed the secure message functionality, even for Preferred members. The only way to contact BOA now is to call them.

Can I apply for another personal Alaska card if I have one open already?
Some people still can, but these days many people get denied. If you don't want to risk getting denied, it's probably better if you close any existing personal Alaska cards before applying for another one. But be sure to lower credit limit as low as possible at least a few business days before you close the card (though the earlier you can do it the better), because credit limit that's left on the card when you close it stays unavailable to new card applications for a year or more (while credit limit that's lowered as a separate step becomes available to new card applications much sooner)!

Can anyone tell me what is the normal amount that people lower the credit limit on the BOA personal and business cards? I have gone through quite a few post and the only thing I have seen is someone saying they lowered it to $200 which seems crazy. Do you usually wait for the bonus to post before lowering it? Can you do it through a secure message? Also anyone know if they companion pass can be sold as I have no use for it since I will never be flying on Alaska Airlines itself.

Gotta call. Personally, I do 1-2k.

The main thing that matters is how much you lower it by, not how much you lower it to.

If you had a $17k CL, there's not much difference between lowering by $16k (to $1k remaining) vs by $16.8k (to $200 remaining) vs by $15k (to $2k remaining). As long as you "release" way more CL than you keep, you should be ok.

The reason for this is because CL "released" through requesting a lowering of the CL is available to new card applications within a few months at most, while CL that stays on the card when it's cancelled can take a year or more before it's "released".

And all that matters to your upcoming applications is how much CL has been "released", not how much hasn't yet been "released".

And that ties in with the wait. For credit score reasons, on a personal card, you want to avoid having a statement post where your statement balance is over 30% of your credit limit. That desire, in turn, may mean that you can't lower as much if you do it earlier, but you can if you wait a little longer. However, since the required spend is only $1k, and 30% of $3500 is a bit over $1k, you'd be safe to lower to $3500 right away if you're only going to spend about as much as you need to to get the bonus. (Plus you'll have the annual fee.) And that's only if you're going to do the spend in one statement cycle; if you're going to spread it out over two or three statement cycles, you can lower to even less CL right away.

On a AS business card, because it doesn't report to credit bureaus, going over 30% CL utilization won't affect your credit score at all, so you could lower to $1500 right away if all you're ever going to do is just barely over the minimum spend.

And since the CL you lower by can still take months before it's "released", it's better to lower CL as soon as you can, even if you can't lower by quite as much as if you waited a few months until the card was "sock drawered".

Dec 2016: Got approved for my first personal card with 17k CL.

After reading the posts here, I'm planning to reduce my CL before I apply for my next card.

Would you recommend me to apply for a 2nd personal card or a business card?
(The personal card is a better deal with the $100 credit but I'm doubting myself whether I can get approved for another personal sig card in May 2017).

If you don't want to get denied, either apply for the business card or cancel the personal card first and then apply for the personal card. Lately people are getting denied left and right if they apply for a second personal card while still having the first personal card open.

Wife has one Alaska Personal card (1st and only). Lowered credit last week to 5K. Today, applied for a business card with our business income in low 6 figures, over 800 FICO. Took a while during application process to find exact number for income. Hit submit and got a "Application Status: Pending" and a reference number. Waited a while and check the status checker a few times. It said "No record of application". Checked the "Finish Saved Application" Link. Nothing found. So I reapplied. Oops. Instant decline on 2nd try.

Is this an instance where we need to call in? It provided a reference, and I see the recon line in the wiki, but it wasn't on the page with the reference number. I called the phone in status checker, and the "message" said they can't check the individual status, and will notify me of their decision my mail within 2 weeks. - from what I have read, personal cards can be recon'd if a second application is made the same day. I don't know - I am confused on proper method to salvage this one.

Call in.

On another note, is it possible to have both my personal and business ccs show up under one BoA login?

Yes, but you may have to scroll. The way it shows up is all your personal cards are at the top, and then there's a gap, and then it shows your business corporate account and then your business card account indented under that.

I was instantly approved for the biz on 1/29. However, when I use the online status checker, there is no record of my application. I have not yet received my card yet either..starting to get concerned.

From my experience, the online check status page does not display business cards, at least it does not for me. It takes about 2 weeks to get your business card after you apply.

Cheers,

My instant approval app for the biz card was canceled by BoA because they thought it was fraud. They did not call me, and simply canceled my application. I only found out by calling them after the card did not show up.

They said to resubmit the application, and now, it went pending instead of instant approval!

Not sure if they know what they are talking about!

Update: called recon. Denied due to lack of biz history. They offered to open the account if i put a minimum of $1500 secured deposit?? Said to wait for the letter in the mail..

credit score 700+

Will the biz card automatically show up in your BoA login once approved?

I used to alternate applying for personal and business cards every few months.
Sometimes I would have 3 personal cards at a time, then would close one and apply for the new one.
Just recently - when it was time for me to apply for the next personal card - I was denied with explanation "you already have card open with us" (at this point I only had one). Yesterday I promptly closed the card, and my last business card was closed in January.
Would it be safe to apply for at least a business card in the next month? Or should I wait? Don't want to risk a hard pull if I get denied.
This new "one card rule" messes up my Alaska BofA routine!
