Personal Card
Click here to get the same offer (see below) with the annual fee waived the first year. First try entering code 999999 in the box at the top of the page. Apparently this offer is from an AA employee selling the card inflight, but it seems to be open to everyone. But publishing that employee's code online could get the employee in trouble. If 999999 doesn't work, use employee code 356467. Note: You will NOT get a $99 Companion Certificate as part of your bonus when the annual fee is waived.
Language from the web offer page: Anniversary Companion Certificate: Each anniversary year; earn a Companion Certificate good for 1 guest at $99 (plus taxes and fees) after spending $20,000 on purchases and your account remains open for 45 days after your anniversary date. There is NO LANGUAGE in this offer regarding a "complimentary" companion certificate.

As of Sept. 2017, most people applying for an Aviator card are being denied, "instantly" by a computer, if they already have an Aviator card open. As of Dec. 2017, most people applying for an Aviator card are being denied, even by recon, if they already have an Aviator card open. It had been that current and previous Aviator Red (US Airways Converted) cardmembers were not subject to the 24-month restriction. This seems to have changed as far as current card holders applying for a second, concurrent card. (See posts #185, 193, 194, 195, 198, 199, 211, 220, 247, 290, 527, 529, 532)

It appears that if your SUB includes the $95 AF (annual fee), Barclays doesn't post the AF until the 2nd statement. Thus, it will be a min. of 2 statements before you see your SUB points. This is only if the SUB requires the AF (as opposed to some SUBs that just have the $x,xxx in purchases with no AF).
There have been at least two cases in July 2023 where Barclays posted the AF prior to the first statement. In both of those cases, the cardholder paid the AF and other balance prior to the closing date. The SUB was issued as of the first statement for one these accounts. It may be the second one was too close to the closing date.
Posting of points from Barclays SUB to AA seem to take 3-7 days after the SUB posts on the Barclays Statement.

I just checked that thread and there's only one comment about this in the past 5 weeks. I assumed everyone would jump all over an offer for 20x points, but maybe I was wrong because there's not much concern from others.

If the offer was valid for spending November through January, why would you expect to see discussion in February and March, after it had ended? I would expect peak discussion just after it was announced as people debated the merits of diverting spend from other cards.

I would have expected discussion in February and March as that is when the points could/should have started posting.

Has anyone (recently) been successful at doing a retcon call to 8664084064 and getting approved for a 2nd AAviator advantage? I was a US Airways converted card member to Barclays and never got the 60k offer. On 4/5, I applied for a 2nd card and was rejected due to already having a card. Thought I'd ask before calling this week and making my case.

Has anyone downgraded recently? Any experiences with that?

Per some previous reports in this thread, you may need to talk to a supervisor to just get the option to downgrade. Most people who only ask the first agent they talk to are told no downgrade is available.
Many people aren't aware of that fact, and thus never get the option to downgrade.

Closed my Aviator Red card in January- it was converted over from the US Airways card. Missing the ability to use the reduced mileage awards and the new welcome bonus offer (60K with first purchase and first year fee waived) has me interested. Any recent experience of something like this being successful (card approval and welcome bonus received)?

I closed my Aviator Red card in late June last year because of the pandemic and me having Gold status from flying (Barclays did not give me a retention offer or offer a downgrade). AA just announced a way to extend status by spending $15k by end of 2021. I would prefer this one over the Citi card because of the wifi credit, but I wonder if they will let me reapply a little after a year after closing the same product. I don't really care about the bonus. Anyone have experience with reapplying after a year?

It's going to be very YMMV on this. Barclays's terms are a bit vague with the "You may not be eligible for this offer if you currently have or previously had an account with us in this program" but there are DPs that ~2 years was enough to get the bonus again. In my opinion, 6 months probably too soon and a year might be okay; however, there's no real way to know unless you apply and see what happens.

Does anyone know how Barclays considers services like Plastiq? Trying to plan how I will get $15k in spend between July 15 and November 15 to maintain AA status. I have a few purchases that will help but thinking I might need a mortgage payment or two to help, if it works.
This is what the T&Cs say:

For cards issued in the U.S., purchases exclude balance transfers, cash advances, checks that access your credit card account, items and services returned for credit, unauthorized charges, interest and account fees, traveler’s checks, purchases of foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers (and similar cash-like transactions), lottery tickets, and gaming chips (and similar betting transactions).

Considering switching from Citi
I have had a Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select for decades. I am also a Lifetime Gold. The Citi card is backup when abroad and merchants do not accept the Amex Platinum, my primary card.
Would the Barclays Aviator Red card offer better benefits than the Citi especially when abroad?
Thanks in advance.
