Cumberland Farms Smartpay risks?
Cumberland Farms offers 10 cents off per gallon of gas with their "Smartpay" card.
It appears to me to function as a debit card. Thus I assume that applying will not result in a "hard" credit pull, appear on record to Chase and others as a credit card application, or in any way potentially hinder one's ability to be accepted for credit card offers in the future. In other words, there is no down side. Is this a reasonable assumption? |

However, IMHO - unless you have no credit card, can't get a credit card, or rely exclusively on debit card, this does not worth signing up for. You may be able to save enough by going a cheaper gas station with a credit card with gas bonus. |
That was my first thought.
But since it is free, and if it has no impact on the rest of your credit history or life other than getting you what, at today's prices, amounts to 6% off gasoline all the time, why not go for it? The prices with the card are definitely cheaper than any other gas stations around here, and the location is very convenient. |
Reviving this old thread as I just signed up for the smartpay today, and wondering about other's experience with it?
