***** #1502 - signup bonus 1/16/18 BUT ANNUAL FEE NOT WAIVED ******

100,000 points after spending $5,000 in first three months. Offer expires 30 December 2015. EXPIRED

A 70,000 points offer was offered back in March 2017 and expired March 31st, 2017. EXPIRED

The requirements for the application process varies from bank to bank based on various online data points collected from FlyerTalk, Doctor of Credit, etc.

Some banks require that you go into a branch and apply personally. Other banks want you to have another account open for 90 days before you can get this card. Some banks (if you already have a relationship with them) let you apply via mail. Sometimes you have to be a resident of the state they operate in, while some were able to get the card without living in those states. It is very much YMMV. You will need proof of income (W2, check stubs, etc). The only states City National Bank operates in are: NY, DE (only trust office, no go), DC, GA, TN, MN, NV & CA. The bank is looking for high net worth individuals, but that's not exactly consistent either.

The card has no foreign transactions fees and is fee-free the first year, then $400 annually.

Register your card for online access (cno.cnb.com). This changed on Sept 19 2019.
Register separately for the award page (www.cnbrewards.com).
Register for Visa Infinite info and access at https://myvisainfinite.com/cnb/en_us/home.html
Click "my info" to see details on points awarded.
Best* redemption found to date is $1,000 prepaid visa for 105K pts. It's now 125K pts for a $1,000 prepaid visa. Link to catalog

I was able to register for an on-line account after I received and activated my card (and can log in on-line), but can't seem to log into the app. However, there are several different City National Bank apps. I'm using the one with the ladder. Is there something I need to know, or am not doing correctly?

For the airline credits, did you guys see it pop up under Pending Transactions before it posted to your account?

Also, which website are you guys using? There's like 2 different websites for CNB credit card.

There's a https://creditcare.cnb.com and a https://cno.cnb.com.

It doesn't show until it posts.

As for your second question, I believe this is the one you should be using: https://creditcare.cnb.com/CNB_Consumer/Login.do

I cannot get the app to work either. I read somewhere (here or reddit) that the app only works if you also have a bank account with them. They are a strange bank (but I am not complaining)

This bank is way stricter with their approvals and authorizations than other banks.... which I like in a way because it's safer. Most of the big banks just approve everything online in like 30 secs which seem way too lax to me.

Anyways, i've had to call CNB way more than I wanted to but all of their CSRs seem to be knowledgeable and helpful.

The CSRs told me that

Currently you can use either of these 2 accounts to manage your CC but the Creditcare website is going away after the CNO one gets updated (no idea when that is)
https://creditcare.cnb.com and a https://cno.cnb.com.

You need to have a CNO login in order to use the mobile app. The CNO login requires someone at the bank to manually verify and approve your account so it takes a couple of days and a callback.

As of now the mobile app ALSO requires you to have another account with CNB besides a credit card in order to use. However, the CSR told me that sometime in the future it's going to change so that you can use it even if you only have a CC account.

Similarly for me, purchased $250 AA gift card on 12/14 (post date 12/17). Credit just came through with a transaction date of 12/19 (post date 12/21). It wasn't visible in my transaction list yesterday but it is today.

FWIW, this was on a new AU card that I had just requested in the last couple weeks.

I appreciate the information. I guess I’ll just hang tight for now, and simply use the online portal.

I hope the new portal keeps the detailed transaction info that is in Credit Care, for example, you can view MCC.

Question, in the authorization section of the Creditcare website I see a whole bunch of $0.00 declined transactions. Usually it's like 1-2 declines from a merchant followed by an approve for the actual amount.

For example, if i buy something on amazon it would say

declined - amazon $0.00
declined - amazon $0.00
approved - amazon $12.81

Is this normally how credit card transactions work but we just don't see the "behind the scenes" transactions on your standard chase or amex accounts?
From my point of view when doing the transaction on Amazon i'm oblivious to the declines. My purchases just go straight through on amazon.com

I mentioned before that this bank provides way more info for pending transaction than I have ever seen. I think these transactions are just the way things happen behind the scenes. Probably a way for merchants to verify if information you have on file matches what you have provided during checkout. Maybe they send a $0 transaction and analyze the remarks that come back about the account??? who knows!. I have noticed other business charge $1 and then change or replace these charges with a new transaction for the correct amount.

I have also seen some merchants (notably gas stations) that charge a big amount ($100) and then replace/change the transaction to reflect the actual amount

Gas pumps typically have a set pre-authorization amount when you swipe/dip/tap the card, typically $75 to $100. When the transaction is done, the pump sends a transaction complete signal which is signals to remove the authorization and then the actual amount of the transaction is transmitted. I also found a few declines but is only one instance when setting up the card with Uber Eats, it was actually declined. Then I immediately tried again and it was authorized.

Both day passes and even a membership fee can be claimed against the $250 travel credit so there shouldn't be any question. This is stated in the guide. Of course, the $550 airline club membership credit won't apply or will be offset if you happen to use the $250 travel credit for a lounge membership.

Someone earlier asked the maximum number of cards: You can only get 3 AU cards and 2 total priority pass cards.

Only 3 AUs at the time of application. You can add (at least) one more after you have the primary card in hand.
