The requirements for the application process varies from bank to bank based on various online data points collected from FlyerTalk, Doctor of Credit, etc.
Some banks require that you go into a branch and apply personally. Other banks want you to have another account open for 90 days before you can get this card. Some banks (if you already have a relationship with them) let you apply via mail. Sometimes you have to be a resident of the state they operate in, while some were able to get the card without living in those states. It is very much YMMV. You will need proof of income (W2, check stubs, etc). The only states City National Bank operates in are: NY, DE (only trust office, no go), DC, GA, TN, MN, NV & CA. The bank is looking for high net worth individuals, but that's not exactly consistent either.
The card has no foreign transactions fees and is fee-free the first year, then $400 annually.
Register your card for online access (cno.cnb.com). This changed on Sept 19 2019.

This was application #3 of my annual mini-apporama today and thought I would share the experience. Was greeted by the branch manager, who promptly handed me off to an associate to print a paper app for me to complete. I came prepared with a copy of my paystub and W2 form (the former was requested, the latter was not). Eventually a more senior banker came by to discuss their trust and investment services. Personally I think this is a much smarter business model than BofA, Citi etc. as their objective is to establish a banking relationship with qualified customers. Along the same lines Chase has been fairly successful with CSR but they probably get a higher % of churners from the online app process.
How long does approval normally take? Would like to activate the PP membership in the next 2 weeks before an upcoming trip.
P.S. No credit report pulled yet - I guess they decided not to process until Monday. Which means I have to unfreeze my report again (sigh). Update: EXP Report was pulled 2 bus days after application.
P.P.S. Unimpressed so far. App was sent out for “processing” still no CR pull. Compare to Amex (applied same day) - received card yesterday via UPS overnight ^ ^ ^

I've had the City National for 3 years now with 3 AUs (my wife and parents). I'm really loving the credits every year.
Has anyone been able to get another card for someone who is already an AU? I was thinking of getting one for my wife.
Also, has anyone gotten the card for a spouse who is not employed (or not gainfully employed) using your own paystubs / W2s?

I don't want to sound like the ethic police here, but rather I would like to at least TRY to enjoy this benefit forever. If too many people start over-abusing this card, this benefit WILL GO AWAY FOR EVERYONE. It's just the rule of life. This is not a big bank so there's only so much they can throw at this. Please be grateful and considerate you're getting all your incidental travel credits + 2 unlimited priority pass cards + visa infinite travel credit.
Don't you see this is too good to be true? stop thinking how to ruin it for everyone!!

Concierge
Can anyone comment on the quality of the concierge service for travel planning? Is this Visa's service, Aspire/VIP Desk, Ten Group, etc. and any idea what level within the concierge vendor? Good/bad experiences?
I have used various credit card concierges for travel planning over the past 10+ years and had more disappointing experiences--and over time lowered my expectations. However, I have used the UBS Visa Infinite concierge through Aspire/VIP Desk and have had great experiences so far--raising my expectations. I am now trying to decide if I move from UBS Visa Infinite to CNB Visa Infinite and if the concierge will be a loss or a neutral to what I have now.

What exactly do you use the concierge for?
We've used the Ten Group for getting a hotel in a crisis situation, and they did a good job. (Actually it was very impressive)
But most of the time, I can't see what how concierges would help over what I can do myself.
I'm not looking for last minute tables at Per Se or French Laundry, or Super Bowl tix etc.

Is there consensus on the best value for redeeming points? A search through the merchandise section shows the best you can do is .83 cents per point for cash (e.g., 12,000 pts for $100). Or in travel, I noticed that compared to Google Flights the equivalent flights were about 7-15% more expensive via the travel portal, meaning, around .93 cents per point for travel (assuming that 100 pts can be used for $1 of travel, which I cannot test as I have 0 points at the moment).
Is the above roughly accurate or is there a better option at 1 cpp or better? Thanks.

I'm pretty new to CNB as well, but I do have points so I can see the valuations. For a run-of-the-mill domestic round trip I'm looking at, AA charges $422.90 while CNB charges $450.59 (6.55% more). In points, CNB charges 33,378, which is a 1.35 cpp redemption against CNB's $450.59 price, or 1.27 cpp against the true $422.90 price. So even with the questionable cash premium, it definitely beats the cash option by a longshot.
