The requirements for the application process varies from bank to bank based on various online data points collected from FlyerTalk, Doctor of Credit, etc.
Some banks require that you go into a branch and apply personally. Other banks want you to have another account open for 90 days before you can get this card. Some banks (if you already have a relationship with them) let you apply via mail. Sometimes you have to be a resident of the state they operate in, while some were able to get the card without living in those states. It is very much YMMV. You will need proof of income (W2, check stubs, etc). The only states City National Bank operates in are: NY, DE (only trust office, no go), DC, GA, TN, MN, NV & CA. The bank is looking for high net worth individuals, but that's not exactly consistent either.
The card has no foreign transactions fees and is fee-free the first year, then $400 annually.
Register your card for online access (cno.cnb.com). This changed on Sept 19 2019.

Ugh, this card isn't nearly impressive enough to justify another checking account. Their checking account doesn't compete with the real leaders in the space (Alliant, Ally, or Schwab). I checked into it because I wouldn't mind switching from my BOA "Preferred Rewards" relationship to an always 3% card, but the $1000 redemption break wasn't appealling to me.

The 100K bonus application says it's good for accounts opened by Nov 30, so it should be.
And yeah, it's only 3% for travel & dining but that is almost all of my credit card spending. I currently use the AAA card for 3.75% on travel and the Travel Rewards for 2.63% on dining, but would take the small travel hit to simplify. That's worth a lot in my increasingly crotchety age

as for the checking account... i dunno, seems pretty good to me? i've only ever had a chase checking account (or wamu before that), so i guess i'm not as up on the various products like i am with CCs. just the atm fee reimbursement alone seems like a pretty great benefit.

ahh yes - very good point. i read through the benefits a couple times but missed this both times. definitely secondary.

Re: checking account--when I looked into it I found out that the debit card has a 3% FTF that isn't reimbursed. For people who mostly travel domestic the ATM reimbursement is still a nice benefit but Schwab beats CNB for international use by offering 0% FTF.

I got approved for this card, but it took a long time to get to me. I was approved on 10/7/2015, the card shipped on 10/14/2015, but I didn't receive it until 10/26/2015. I assume based on other credit cards that I have to finish my $5k by 1/7/2016 to get the bonus.

My husband learned he had been approved today so I went into the branch and applied. I had to open a separate (fee free) savings account for $500. We'll consolidate once I have my card.
Has anyone who has received their card figured out how to use the airline credit?

I have an upcoming jetblue flight across the continent and I am upgrading to more leg room with this card. As to other ways to get the credit, am thinking of buying some airline giftcard and see if it works but haven't gotten to it yet...
