Sometimes you have to be a resident of the state they operate in, while some were able to get the card without living in those states. It is very much YMMV. You will need proof of income (W2, check stubs, etc). The only states City National Bank operates in are: NY, DE (only trust office, no go), DC, GA, TN, MN, NV & CA. The bank is looking for high net worth individuals, but that's not exactly consistent either.
The card has no foreign transactions fees and is fee-free the first year, then $400 annually.

DP: I ordered AA GC in the last week of Dec. Pending charge showed immediately but no posted charge for a few days. Reimbursed on 1/6. Charges came in just under the wire in 2020, so fingers crossed that they're still counting these as my 2020 allotment and not against 2021.
I had a purchase on 12/25 that was declined by AA and didn't even get to CNB. I found out on 12/31 and made two GC purchases ($150, $200) on 12/31. It took like 6 days to post the charges (I'm assuming from the holdiays) but still no credit. In past years, my purchases that posted in January still counted for the previous year's allotment but I've never cut it this close before. Will update if (when?) I get the credit...

I had a purchase on 12/25 that was declined by AA and didn't even get to CNB. I found out on 12/31 and made two GC purchases ($150, $200) on 12/31. It took like 6 days to post the charges (I'm assuming from the holdiays) but still no credit. In past years, my purchases that posted in January still counted for the previous year's allotment but I've never cut it this close before. Will update if (when?) I get the credit...

Yeah, I just received the letter via snail mail, but didn’t pay much attention to it. Maybe it’s to pay for all of the new benefits they’re going to roll out. Ha ha! That’s a joke.

That is what I am thinking. If they don't want the card, just go ahead and say so. I would trash it except it has a 100K credit line.

It took longer than it should but someone finally called me back to cancel the card (The annual fee posts 3/31).
Also, they told me as of January they are no longer downgrading anyone. So your option is cancel or keep.

I dodged a $400 bullet. Last August before the fee was due I tried to downgrade but was told once I pass my first anniversary I can then downgrade. If I had gone down that road I would have waited until this August to again downgrade.
