This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

The Exec ($450 AF) churn ended years ago............the Platinum ( $95 AF, first year waived) Churn has been going on for over a year now.

50K / $3k / 3 month spend matched to 70k for asking

65K/ $4K/ 4 months spend matched to 75K for asking

Regular AA cards but only thru targeted mailers. You need to read the thread being directed to before making assumption.

Application links appear to be down. Per DoC, sounds like they may be relaunching this card soon.

I decided to close my Arrival as I had a problem getting miles for using their online shopping portal. There are such better travel cards now anyway. 2 miles per $ on travel and 1 mile per $ on everything else is no big deal. I wouldn’t pay $89 AF just to get 2 miles per dollar either. I consider the Premier version not worth $150 AF either.

With the 5% redemption, the effective rate is 2.1% which makes it a pretty good travel card.

I have a card that earns 3 miles per $ on travel and 1.5 miles per $ on all else with no AF. It also gives me $100 off airline incidentals and reimburses Global Entry. So I will be using it instead.

If anyone is able to PC to the new "premier card" please post. (from A, A+ or barclay-rewards).

2.1% arrival is ok, but there are better cards for non-bonused spend. Amex edp, BB+, spg. citi DC, BoA rewards if you have requisite holdings, chase FU. A few other 2.5-3% cashback cards out there too. Barclays card works at pin only locations in europe, like at a train kiosk, which is helpful. But barclays jetblue/aa cards work the same, so you don't need them all.

Cheers.

Does anyone know if Big Bus Tours (Sightseeing Bus Tours | Hop-On Hop-Off | Big Bus Tours) is coded as travel on the Arrival+ card? I'm going to 3 different cities and will be purchasing Big Bus Tours tickets and it would be helpful if I could redeem my points. Thanks in advance.

I will never use Big Bus. These clowns have an army of aggressive sales soldiers who harass the crap out of you. In Budapest we didn't go 2 blocks before 15-20 of these clowns hunted us down. If I want a tour bus it's pretty easy to find one that doesn't require being attacked by their comrades.

But to answer your question I've done other tours that did and some that didn't count. You can always call them and do a manual redemption since it's clearly a travel expense. This is why I like a card like BOA's Premium card and you can redeem against any transaction or even redeem to your checking account. And travel is 2x or more with Preferred Rewards.

Have not need to use that the past 3 years for our 2 to 3 trips in Europe each year. The last time we used it was in Vienna 2014 or 2015.. And the card failed at the parking gate at Monte St.Michel. Had to go to the office to pay anyway. No PIN needed.
Many European countries finally realized that they need to reprogram their machines to accommodate the US-issued card that even it has chip it does not have PIN. Even the Barclays cards transaction hierarchy is NOT PIN first,

Would not pay AF just for this function that no longer seems to be an absolute must.

How are you able to get those mailers?
I signed up an individual but they only receive the 24-month language emails. :-(
