This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Its allowed by an amendment to the 2009 Card Act as outlined below. There is no reason not to use HHI. In most states, if you are married, you are legally liable for any debt that occurs during the marriage. So basically you are jointly applying for any debt anyway, so you might as well use it.

"A 2013 amendment to the federal regulations surrounding the Card Act expanded the definition of one’s ability to pay so that people 21 and older can include any income to which they have a “reasonable expectation of access.” This can include income from a spouse, partner or other member of your household. It can also include nonwage income such as savings, trust fund distributions, unemployment compensation and others."

Any update on this, getting the bonus again for previous holders of Arrival Plus?

Will update very soon. Just got my card last week and we went to Maui over the weekend for our V-day getaway (we feel very fortunate to live in Honolulu) and I also paid my car insurance and health insurance just yesterday. I will likely pay my rent early as well and so will update once my minimum spend is met by end of this week!

The current language sounds like if you ever have this card before, you will not receive bonus.

See below the additional languages in the second paragraph bolded by me - seems like Barclays has adopted AMEX approach.
  • Offer subject to credit approval. If at the time of your application you do not meet the credit criteria previously established for this offer, or the income you report is insufficient based on your obligations, we may not be able to open an account for you. This offer is available to new cardmembers only. The annual fee will be waived the first year and then automatically bill to your account every twelve months after account opening. For information about rates, fees, the annual fee, other costs, the rewards program information and benefits associated with the use of the credit card program, please see the Terms and Conditions.

This one-time offer is valid for eligible cardmembers. You may not be eligible for this offer if you currently have or previously had an account with us in this program. In addition, you may not be eligible for this offer if, at any time during our relationship with you, we have cause, as determined by us in our sole discretion, to suspect that the account is being obtained or will be used for abusive or gaming activity (such as, but not limited to, obtaining or using the account to maximize rewards earned in a manner that is not consistent with typical consumer activity and/or multiple credit card account applications/openings).

Indeed this is my concern as posted above, as were other posters. I had the Arrivals+ card about 3-4 years ago and I'm a very light churner so we'll see.

The fact that they do have the word "MAY" in that sentence does make it a tad bit more reassuring....but we'll see

As of tonight I've met the $5k spend requirement. It'll be paid off in the next 1-2 days in full so we'll see if that 70k shows up......fingers crossed.

Will immediately update and post to this as a data point...one way or another.

The points will post the day charges officially post to the card when you reach $5K spend. I personally received this card on Tuesday, met all the spend Tuesday night and had the points in my account by Thursday! Talk about a fast turnaround.

A+ does not require payment on statement to issue bonus. The bonus would post within a day or two after the charge crossing the spend requirement is posted.

If you dont see the bonus by Mon or Tue, that I am afraid, means no bonus to you as the system flags the previous ownership of the same card.

Barclay Arrival Plus bonus again?

Does anyone have any data points if they were successful in receiving the Barclaycard Arrival+ bonus again? I received the bonus over 2 years ago. I am at about 13/24 now. Do you think I can apply and get approved again and receive the bonus?

If not, what are my chances of getting the Capital One Venture card if I am at 13/24? I never had the card before and my credit score is over 800.

I am going to Universal Studios and would
like to erase some charges.

13/24 would stop you on the track with both Barclays and CapOne. Other things are irrelevant when you are at this number.

I am 30/24, at least, and was just approved for my third Arrival Plus two weeks ago. Working on the spend now. My wife was also approved for her second and is 20/24. Just FYI.

In this case good for you both. Seems Barclays has had a change of heart then after its unsuccessful attempt to introduce the short-lived no bonus card and has to resort back to the A+ with bonus and first year free.

Wneh you say your 3rd and your wife's second - how long ago your previous A+ were? Have you gotten it AFTER the first new language being put in place?

Note there are 2 different areas mentioned about the eligibility. The 2nd part seems to be a patched up job that only showed up recently.

The final proof would be, do the previous cardholders still receive the bonus now they added a new dimension in the T&Cs that a few weeks before weren't there (only the new customer paragraph versus the new paragraph that seems to be a patched up work.)

Those who play the repeat game, please report back if you receive the bonus upon finishing the spend. Thank you in advance!

Both of our last Arrival+'s were before the change in language, which happened pretty recently. My last Arrival was 4/17 and closed 6/18. I don't have a record of my wife's last Arrival+, but she does have an Arrival (non-plus) card open as of right now. FWIW.

Also - (assuming above quote is not true) I can't find the answer to this: I had the Arrival Plus about 6 years ago. 3 years ago I downgraded to basic Arrival. Since I have the regular Arrival currently, will that stop me from being approved and getting bonus again fro Arrival Plus.

^^^^^ Responding to all of the above posters.

Report back on my data point.

FICO 800, 3/24, I last had the Arrivals+ card probably 3-4+ years ago. Just met my 5k minimum spend on friday, logged into my account and the 70K miles bonus showed up!!! WOOT!

Hope this helps others be more at ease. And as always, YMMV.

Have a good week all!
