Barclays Arrival Plus, now 70K w/$5k spend

This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn miles but youre actually earning cash back with the card since you cant transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so youre effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

760 score and 4/24.
Wooo .. Thats not good. I was approved 3 months ago and closed my only other Arrival card 13 months before approval.

Sorry to hear that; cancelled my Arrival Plus (had been open a couple of years) with the intent of reapplying once I was under 6/24.

I applied with a current no fee Arrival and called 866-408-4064. Then I was told that I have the same product so they can't process my application. I explained they are different but they just keep saying that it's Arrival, it's the same. Very frustrated. Which recon line did you call? Maybe I should try again ......

They wont budge. Theyve always consider the Arrival and Arrival + the same product. Its a good habit to check rules before applications. Even when you think you know something, things change.

Angry Barclays asking for IRS Form 4506T

I recently applied for the Arrival +. Previously had the card, then downgraded to the no-fee in 2015 and cancelled it 14 months ago. Received a letter from Barclays saying they needed to verify my stated income (mid-6 figures) and needed to send them an IRS Form 4506T, which allows them to have access to all my tax returns. Credit score is 820+, perfect payment history. When I called to ask why they needed my income tax returns, they said it was to verify my identity. I am very offended by this invasive request and am considering withdrawing my application instead of providing them with access to my tax returns.
Has anybody else received a request like this? The person I spoke to said it was "a new policy" for certain applications but could/would not provide any more information.

They hardly need total access to your tax returns to simply "verify (your) identity", that's nonsense. I know I'd find that request offensive too, if I had an 820 score, and perfect payment history. No way I'd do that just for a lousy Arrival card. Do you need that card that badly?

Certainly don't need the card that badly and I told them to shove it. I hated to waste the hard pull, though, and I'm still curious whether this is truly a new policy to verify income and identity, or whether something else was going on. They wouldn't tell me what triggered the request, so I'm looking for any other data points out there.

Can anyone answer whether EASYJET flights are coded so that they can be redeemed with points on Arrival+?
Over next few months I will be flying a lot with them, and wanted this card specifically to erase those purchases.

I recently got the Arrival + and am trying to meet the $5K min Spend. Does anyone have (or have read of) any data points on buying gift cards at Simon Mall to meet the $5K requirement in 90 days? I'd like to make a large/legitimate gift card purchase for gifts for co-workers and family for the holidays...but don't want to have Barclays try to claim I was using the card "in a manner inconsistent with everyday use... blah blah". Many of the posts here seem to address either the approval process or the process of getting the sign-bonus a 2nd/3rd/4th time(both good topics)...but I'm having trouble finding any DPs on my Simon question here or on Reddit as it pertains to the Arrival +.

How long from approval until the card shows up in the mail? I have a large purchase I need to make before the end of the year and would like to put it on this card.

There's no way for the bank to know how you used your purchase. That's puffing, as in selling a used car driven only by "an old lady to and from church".
If there are no DPs on a common subject posted on FT or Reddit, that means nothing unusual or newsworthy happened -- such posts are supposed to go on facebook.

If my account had been closed by Barclay for suspicious activities (MS, for example), is there any chance for me to get this card? How long does Barclay remember such record? Thanks.

Denied Datapoint

I have had the Barclay's Arrival Plus card once before...opened on 10/6/16, closed on 11/14/17. Prior to my application for a second Barclay's Arrival Plus card, I was at 2/6, 5/12, and 9/24. FICO is 854 on scale up to 900 and income well over $100K. Got the response that my application needed further review. I immediately selected the link to check my application status and received message that the application was denied and that a letter will be forthcoming advising of the denial reason.
