Barclays Arrival Plus, now 70K w/$5k spend

This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Who/where did you buy the gift card from?

Sounds like while the purchase will earn 2x, it's the redemption/eraser that isn't seeing it as a travelcategory .

Have you tried calling CS?

I bought it straight from hotel.com.

It did not earn 2X. It earned me 1X. It did not show up as a transaction that can be redeemed as a travel charge neither. I thought I made it clear.

Feel free to buy a random Hotel.com gift card yourself and test it out. For me it did not work. I did not bother calling CS since it's a gift card charge and I did not want to drawn much attention to it.

Does anyone know how soon after closing arrival that someone could be approved and get the bonus again for Arrival plus? I saw DPs from couple days to over 6 months...

How do you see if you have the bonus attached to the account or not? I just got approved for my 2nd card after closing my first one about a month ago.

So how often do you actually receive the arrival+ bonuses, once a year? Apply, meet min spend, keep open for 6 months, cancel, and then reapply again after another 6 months of closing?

Greetings.

I am approaching a time when my inquiries will be low again. Actual score is fine.

Would love to have that Arrival Plus again. It's been about 18 months since I closed the first one. It was a sweet deal back then, but I digress.

I just closed my Aviator after having two years AF waiver. CL was transferred to my Jetblue and that CL is more than adequate. It's just I don't want to waste a HP and I want the 50K bonus. Can I qualify for the bonus with a second go round?

TIA.

Based on the overwhelming evidence in this thread, yes. I had it for a few years and received a 40k point bonus, downgraded to Arrival card, closed out and waited a month before applying, being approved, spending the $3k and earning the 50k point bonus.

I opened my Arrival + in June 2015, closed it in June 2016. I applied again just this past weekend so just over 6 months since I closed it and was denied. Quite shocking since I have never been denied a credit application. I will wait and see what the letter states for a reason I guess.

FWIW, I applied for the JetBlue card, got denied, letter stated "too many cards opened". I did some Amex applications within past year...

Barclay Arrival+ Points Balance Not Showing

Hello All,

I recently signed up for the Barclay Arrival + and met the spending with actual spending + VGC purchases online. I always saw my points balance on the right margin and even my most recent billing statement showed that the 50,000 bonus + spending posted but recently when I login to the website the points balance on the right margin is completely missing - it's simply not there. In fact, usually you'd even see the points balance in a small blue bubble next to each individual transaction and that's not even there anymore. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Am I under review for the VGCs?

Thank you!

Barclays is doing an internal update. Wait a couple of days.

Thanks Wendigo. Funny enough, I sent them a secure message and about 45 minutes afterward all the information was restored.
