This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Not a fan of the Arrival+ so far. Their fraud protection is a bit heavy handed and just about everything gets rejected until I call them. They said they are building a profile of my spending, and until it is done....I am SOL. An order on my Amazon account got rejected for chrissakes. This is incredibly obnoxious.

Strange. I wonder why they have you so locked down. Haven't experienced that at all.

Really? That is very strange. I did the instant approval online thing and got a $7500 credit limit. Set things up online alright with my pin # and all, but once the first thing got rejected, everything else did as well, even though I called and had them tell me everything was good to go before proceeding. Hopefully after things get sorted with the online orders I made today, everything runs smoothly. I'd hate to have to cancel the card before earning anything from it, but I am also not down to spend 30 to 60 minutes a day on the phone waiting to chat.

Have one data point from a friend.

He was in same situation.

He cancelled and then reapplied one month later....was declined.

Reapplied 2 months after decline (3 months after closing original Arrival)...went pending and then approved.

So...wait 3 mos atleast.

This guy also had 800+ credit and not many inquiries either. So wait longer if you are in worse shape than him.

Barclay is very stingy with cards to begin with, so keep that in mind as well.

This is strange. I haven't had any issues either, and all of my activity has been overseas, and I was approved with the minimum $5000 CL. I've been an authorized user on my wife's Barclay Travelocity AMEX for several years, maybe that has something to do with it.

I was just instantly approved for my 2nd Arrival+. $7500 CL.

Nov/Dec 2013: Approved for 1st Arrival+.
February 2015: Closed 1st Arrival+
March 24th 2015: Approved for US Airways.
June 26th 2015: Approved for 2nd Arrival+.

I'll report back if I get the miles when I meet the spend, probably mid July.

Does anyone know off-hand if I can set it up to get account info on the Arrival+ by text? Like to see current remaining limit, etc...

Also, Anyone have any idea when my first bill would be due relative to when I received the card (or relative to when the card was approved)?

check online on the activity page. It tells you statement closing date. ..though I can't remember if that is after the first. However you can just call and ask. No one here will know.

You should hang up and call again. That should be an easy one. Who did you book through and what is the merchant category?

One note for people since I saw a few upthread had issues abroad with the card: When setting up my pin # just now, it said my first use of the card outside of the US needs to be at a manned kiosk or hotel or something like that. And only after it is used like that the first time can it be used for unmanned things....just something to keep in mind!

You can easily accomplish that by going to WalMart and use the chip card to buy something.

The chip needs to be updated for the PIN info - the only way to do it is to have a PIN and signature transaction by inserting the card to the PIN-enabled register - when the transaction is processed, your PIN is also downloaded to the chip on your card, thus now the PIN is stored in the chip.

Until the update is done, the PIN is not programmed in the chip. If you do not go to WalMart before you travel overseas, you then must do your transaction at the "manned" POS first before your card would work with the "unmanned" Kiosk.
