This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Applied for the 2nd time on December 2016 and downgrade the card on February 2018.

Is it too soon to apply for the card again? Anyone with luck getting this card for the 3rd time?

Thanks

Anyone noticing the terms now say "You may not be eligible for this offer if you currently have or previously had an account with us in this program. In addition, you may not be eligible for this offer if, at any time during our relationship with you, we have cause, as determined by us in our sole discretion, to suspect that the account is being obtained or will be used for abusive or gaming activity (such as, but not limited to, obtaining or using the account to maximize rewards earned in a manner that is not consistent with typical consumer activity and/or multiple credit card account applications/openings)."

I applied about a month and a half ago. I have met the 5,000 spend but it was in the middle of the second statement cycle. I have about two more weeks until the statement date. Normally on the Arrival+ with waived first year fee, the bonus points within a day or so of the spend being met. It has not this time. Though, I think that it may be due to the annual fee. I know that in the past on US Air and AA cards, you had to pay the annual fee before the first statement cut, to have the miles post on the first statement. I had not paid the balance due before the statement cut on the first statement. So, I had not paid the fee or met the spend requirement before my first statement.

I am optimistic that the points will post in the next couple of weeks after statement #2 cycles. If not, then churning of this card could be dead.

I was approved for the Arrival Plus the very end of August 60K after 5K spend $89 A.F.. First statement closed with $ 89 A.F.about a week ago.
Called today and asked if I could be matched to the new identical offer but with A.F. waived for the first year.
After a brief hold to my amazement was told yes but that it would take 60 days for the refund to post. I was given a reference number and when I see it I'll believe it.

Just thought I'd post this as it may be worth your while to try.

P.S. Tried this first by secure message and they wrote back for me to call in for better service.

I don't have any DPs for this card, but on the Barclays Aviator thread there are several reports of not being eligible for a bonus if you have opened or closed the same card within 24 months, or in some cases even longer. But I think in that case the app is denied, rather than sending out a card and not giving out the bonus.

I signed up for the Barclays Arrival Premier before they started waiving the fee. I sent a message and after a few days the fee was refunded. The circumstances may be different though because it was probably important for them to keep Premier cardholders happy since it was a new product..

Can you get approved for the Arrival Plus if you are currently holding the no fee version?

The annual fee was credited back to me yesterday so this is a change from the previous Barclays policy of matching only within the first 30 days of account opening.
Don't know yet if this was an exception for this card only due to its dismal performance but a D.P. none the less worth noting.

DP: I applied yesterday while at 7/24 and with a current no fee Arrival. I called the recon line today and the reason for the denial was because of my Arrival account. He then asked me about my income, profession, and why I had opened 3 cards in the past several months. After answering his questions, he was able to approve me by shifting CL from my other Barclays accounts!

FWIW applied last week and was auto-denied. In fact, they didn't even bother pulling my credit report.

When I received the denial letter the other day, the reason they gave was "You've reached the limit on the number of times you can have this card" or something to that effect.

I've had two Arrival cards over the past few years. Most recent was opened around 18 months ago and closed around 6 months ago.

760 score and 4/24.
