Yeah, it's an inconvenience, but you're right, I can make it work.

Looks like BoA just launched a widely targeted offer for an additional $50 credit on dining/groceries, for longer term cardholders. Glad I didn't cancel!

BOA Alaska - called in to cancel - spent about 3500 last year used the companion ticket but AS cancelled 2 of 3 flights on us this spring and we only got voucher refunds so not really feeling the love. BOA agent made no attempt at retention or transfer and cancelled instantly.

I just spoke to BofA CS. You keep the companion certificate if you cancel your card.

I have 2x BoA AS cards. Canceled 1 today, got af refunded, and transferred credit line to my other BoA AS card. Accepted promotion for profile (not a retention offer): spend $1500 in 3 months and get $100 statement credit ~8 weeks after promo period.

I didn't want the hassle of dummy booking a Companion Fare in advance of AS' 31 July cutoff and then moving it when I knew more about my travel plans. Too many ways that booking could go wrong. The Companion fare hasn't been too lucrative for me over the past few years, another reason for cancelling the card today.

I know cs reps aren't always the best source of answers but as in my previous comment I was told otherwise. Can you please site the T&C for your info?

Annual Companion Fare Benefit: Primary cardholders whose accounts are open with active charging privileges on their annual Account Anniversary date will receive a Companion Fare code within the first 2 billing cycles after the Anniversary date each year, which will be credited to their Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan™ account. The code is valid for a round-trip or one-way coach Companion Fare on Alaska Airlines from $121 (USD) ($99 base fare plus taxes and fees, from $22 depending on your Alaska Airlines flight itinerary) when traveling with another guest on a paid published coach airfare on the same itinerary, booked at the same time on alaskaair.com. Multiple stopovers not allowed. Primary fare and Companion Fare must be purchased with your Alaska Airlines credit card. The Companion Fare code must be redeemed at alaskaair.com within 12 months of the date of issue. Once ticketed, travel may be completed after the expiration date of the Companion Fare code. The expiration date cannot be extended and, once your Companion Fare code has expired, it cannot be exchanged. If your Account is closed, you are no longer eligible to receive this benefit. Mileage cannot be used as a form of payment, however mileage credit accrual is allowed for both guests. The Companion Fare code is not valid with award travel, and cannot be combined with any other airfare discounts. Guest is responsible for all applicable taxes, fees, surcharges and applicable checked baggage fees. Applicable taxes and fees are subject to change. You can view your Companion Fare terms and conditions by logging into your Mileage Plan account.

"Primary fare and Companion Fare must be purchased with your Alaska Airlines credit card. "
Thanks for the clarification. This also implies I cannot use the money in my Wallet to purchase my fare. Still not sure if I want to keep the card.

That is interesting. I never considered it but it is possible that 'my Wallet' has enough funds to cover the primary fare and all associated taxes/fees thus no need to use AS credit card. I wonder if there are data points on this: using 'my Wallet' to cover all cost and still be able to use companion fare.

That works, at least for now. Many of us have significant My Wallet balances to spend down thanks to canceled flights this spring and AS is accommodating that.

Wow the same just happened to me. I closed my Amtrak and the rep offered me this promo to my another card. I thought the rep was saying spend 1.5K before 12/23/2020 to get the 100 SC. It's 3 months? I didn't receive any email, tho.
