Help a newbie with his first AOR
After way too long spent reading about AORs I’ve decided to go for my first big batch of new cards. I figure with some of the deals a little MS might be in order too.
Any recommendations you have on cards to apply for, or which order to do it in would be appreciated. I usually fly AA or SWA. Posting this is also helpful as I gotta figure out my current cards and finally start tracking them. Thank you! Credit Karma: 757 Average age: 8yr 1mo Total accounts: 9 (6 open, 3 closed) Hard inquiries: 2 Current cards (I pay them in full each month except the 2 listed at 0% apr): Personal (30% total CL utilization, mostly on the BA card): Discover 1: unused Discover 2: 10% utilization at lifetime 0% apr (don’t know if I’ll ever see an offer like that again) BA Mastercard: 85% utilization, 0% apr until 2/2015 Chase Freedom: 0% util Citi AA Platinum Visa: 1% util, applied 7/2013, got 50k bonus miles Business cards: Amex Simply Cash: ~15% util Chase Ink Bold: ~25% util, applied 7/2013, got 50k points My thoughts for new cards: Wells Fargo Cash Back (5% CB for 6mo) Barclay US Air 40k miles, $89 AF (or to go for the 30k miles with no AF version?) Citi AA Executive, $450 AF Chase Ink Plus, 50k UR, waived AF Next week: Citi AA Biz MC, 50k miles, waived AF Some questions/misc thoughts: 1. What other business card would you recommend? Hotel card? 2. Are the Chase SWA cards churnable? I’m not keen on getting the companion pass now when I won’t use it as much as I would if I first got it a couple years from now. However, if I could get the bonus again in a year then I might as well get them now :D 3. I was planning on closing the Ink Bold in June to avoid the AF and applying for the Ink Plus then to get the signup bonus again – would it be better to get the Ink Plus now, then close the Bold and reapply for the Bold in the summer? Would I get the 50k bonus again on the Bold? 4. Any tips on when to close cards that have AFs and when to reapply for the same ones while still being able to get the bonus would be much appreciated. 5. Is there a 40k US Air biz card? I’d like to get the business card as well, but all I can find is 25k bonus. 6. How many Chase cards can be applied for in a day? 7. Another other advice for an AOR newbie Thank you again!! |
1. Hotel - SPG, possibly IHG
2. Yes, sort of. You can get either version now (Plus at $69 or Premier at $99) and then the other one after a year, and alternate. 3. If you don't want to have to transfer all the points out now, go for the Plus and then close the Bold. Some people have been able to get multiple Ink cards for different businesses, YMMV. 4. Every issuer and card can be different. You basically have to research or ask in the individual forum, and know that the rules can change at any time. 6. Usually 2 personal and 1 business. 7. Clear cookies or use private browsing, and take screenshots. And add an AMEX card if you can meet the additional spending. Good luck and welcome to flyertalk! |
