help finding best credit card combination!
Hi,
I currently use two credit cards, one for personal use and another for company use. Personal: SPG Amex. Have had it for 6 years. Spend about $5k per month. Usually transfer the points to AA for to get the 1.25 bonus. Company: AA Citi Business. Have had it for 6 years. Spend about $10k per month. Goes straight 1 for 1 to AA account. (I have about 4 employees that use an extension of the card) I am thinking about shaking things up a bit to get more miles/bonus. I am interested in the Barclaycard arrival card, but I am open to all suggestions. Also, interested in how do I go about in terms of closing accounts and such to make the process as painless as possible. Look forward to your ideas! |
Looks like you're an AA guy. If you want to keep adding AA miles I wouldn't cancel either card. But I would suggest you add an AA personal card for the 50K mile bonus. The Barclay Arrival will give you a max. of $444 in travel offset credit. A good deal too.

I don't know how much of your spend is on AA, but if it's very little, you might want to consider an SPG Amex business card. When transferred in 20k blocks, you get effectively 1.25 miles/dollar on SPG versus 1.05 miles/dollar on Citi Business, and (IIRC) the SPG annual fee is lower.
For the personal card, the annual 10% rebate alone makes the card worth holding. In addition to all that, you might want to consider the following cards: - Chase Marriott 70k. Not great for on-going spend for AA, but the signup bonus will get you 25k or so AA miles, and you get a free night every year. - Barclays US Airways card. These miles will (probably) turn into AA miles sooner or later. - Citi Executive AA card. High annual fee, but currently has a 60k bonus, and you can earn EQM if you care about that. If anyone has other suggestions for cards with good signup bonuses that can be transferred to AA (without huge losses), I'd love to hear. |
I don't know if the British Airways 100,000 bonus is still there but I would use that. Any flights (ok almost any) that have super saver awards on AA case be used with BA miles and for less miles in some cases. Meaning I can get from Omaha to Chicago for 4500 BA miles instead of 12500 AA miles. They are distance based and sometimes makes great use of your BA miles.
