Two $99 companion passes every year and 10,000 PQM after $25k spend. 5k discount on miles redemption is also nice.

While I understand that this is not an uncommon view, it still seems strange to me. Having a great redemption value in cents per mile doesn't necessarily make up for reducing the number of trips that you take.

I can see it. Some have less time off. Unless they travel for work status is very unlikely. If you earn > burn, then burn in style.

Right now I have both of the cards you mention but I like the US card because of the no minimum spend*. Not as many miles but you can have this card as a free add on. I have heard rumors that if the merger does continue that the miles bonus from Barclay could go up on this card but I don't think this is worth passing up on it now.

*FYI, I made 1 purchase and cancelled the card after miles posted. Super easy and they didn't even hard sell me to keep it. I will reapply in January and try to get it again.

Seems like an easy option but not all that great of a payback. If you spend $20k per year on the card that is only ~10k more points. Better of going with a big bonus card up front.
