Gift card purchase strategy
For business reasons, I need to buy 50 gift cards (Amex or Visa) with a value of $600 per card. The amount of the card can't be changed but i could buy two cards to total $600 (say a $500 card and a $100 card). Other than simply ordering the cards from Amex, does anyone have any suggestions on a way to maximize the points I can earn on this without incurring per card purchase fees in amounts that would negate the value of the points earned?

Depending on which cc you have, buy them at a gas station that gives you 2x points. You will have to buy 500/100 combo to get 600.

On Amex's gift card website, under Consumer Gift Cards, choose Personalized cards. There you can choose a value between $25 and $3000. So you can get your $600 gift cards for just a single $3.95 fee. Even though you will only get 1x rewards, the lower fees will leave you better off.

if the common cashback sites put amex giftcards back on their sites, you could conceivably combine Dukerau's advice with cashback to totally negate fees.
