How long to wait between CC applications (newbie)

Hello,

I'm a newbie, so please move this post to the correct forum if its in the wrong spot.

I recently (March17) picked up a Capitol One Venture card for my first credit cards with rewards. I've already met the minimum spend to get the bonus pts. Of course, in the meantime I've found this site and I now see the benefit to card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

So my question is, how long do I wait before applying for the Chase card? I checked with CapOne and first bill won't even be due until May 17th. Can I apply now? Is there a reason to wait until I pay off the first month on CapOne?

Will applying for two cards in less than two months time really screw up my credit (from reading here I know it will only go down 5-6 pts when it's pulled). Basically, can I apply now or should I wait until May? Or wait 30, 60, 90 days? Is there a general rule to follow for CC applications? If I apply before I pay the first CapOne bill, will it look 'suspicious' to the CC companies that I'm all sudden getting another card but they haven't seen my ability to pay the CapOne bill yet?

Sorry this is so lengthy. Any help you can provide is appreciated.

You should really do more reading before you complete your first churn. The rule/guideline (and other threads and questions) you are asking about is/are one of the basic "pillars" of churning, and is/are very common knowledge, covered in every card offer thread, and every blog. Spend some more time reading before you do any more applications.

This would depend on your credit score and your goal in churning. Assuming you have good credit, though, applying for more cards right now shouldn't hurt. It's just good to do research first to make sure you aren't wasting credit pulls on pointless cards.
