Which card should I get?
Greetings!!
My family and I are moving to South Korea to teach and we're wondering what card we should be pursuing. Just a few facts about us: 1. We have Air Miles right now, but the return is terrible. 2. We will be travelling back to Canada once a year. 3. We have no loyalty to any one airline, and tend to shop for the cheapest price. 4. We will be travelling out of Korea whenever we get the chance. 5. Presently I make over $80 000 6. We don't mind paying a fee for a card if we have to. 7. Flying out of Buffalo or Toronto (Toronto is closer, but Buffalo generally much cheaper) 8. We spend $3-4000/month on credit cards (though this will not be used much in Korea because of Canadian Foreign Exchange Rates when we use these cards outside of Canada) I have narrowed down to a few possibilities (though am open to suggestions): 1. TD First Class Visa Infinite Card. 2. Capital OneŽ Aspire Travel™ World MasterCardŽ 3. BMO World Elite MasterCard I would like to get the card in the next couple weeks as we fly in July and I want to start booking and building points ASAP Thanks!! |
Which card should I get?
I'm confuse here. What you want the points for. I would suggest korean air credit card if your staying at Korea.

Chase Sapphire Preferred for ultimate reward points or AMEX Starwood preferred guest for SPG points. These give the flexibility to transfer to multiple airlines as needed.

Which card should I get?

Yep, I'm Canadian. Sorry for not mentioning that.
Thanks!! |
welcome to flyertalk!
please edit your topic title to mention korea, to get more specific responses. it may be possible for you to get a korean credit card once you get your ARC card. i say "may" because i don't know the details personally and i've heard that it can be difficult even with an ARC. i've heard that lotte, hyundai, and LG offer generous card benefits. |
Check out Korean Airlines' page on credit cards in Korea that earn miles: http://www.koreanair.com/local/kr/ld...g_sp_em_cc.htm

if you actually plan to use the card mostly in Canada, there is a CA version of the SPG AMEX (https://www.americanexpress.com/ca/e...d-credit-card/)
If you look at the list of airlines you can transfer your points into (http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...tner_list.html), there are a few Asian airlines which may interest you, if you will do some regional travel. Remember there is a bonus of 5K miles for a single 20K mile transfer into airline programs. there seems to be a $120 annual fee for the CA SPG AMEX w/20K points initial signup offer. also, "As an added benefit of being a Cardmember, you can always earn more Starpoints by referring a friend, for each approved referral you could earn 10,000 Starpoints" balance the pros and cons! |
